Today
we had teams representing England (x3), Romania
(x1), Sweden (x1) and 7x teams representing our
hosts, the Netherlands. Who would be holding the
coveted trophy aloft at around 18.00 this evening?
The
opening match of Group A was Shush IF (Swe) took
on tournament debutants Victory United (Ned).
The opening half proved to be a tightly contested
affair, with little to separate the two sides.
Victory United settled into the occasion well
and matched their opponents throughout the first
period. Both defences remained well organised,
limiting clear-cut chances, and neither goalkeeper
was beaten as the teams went into the break locked
together at 0–0.
The
deadlock was finally broken in the second half,
although in unfortunate circumstances for the
Dutch side, as Shush IF took the lead courtesy
of an own goal. With the breakthrough secured,
the Swedes began to grow in confidence and soon
doubled their advantage when Matteo Centellini
finished well to make it 2–0. Victory United continued
to battle but found it increasingly difficult
to break down a disciplined Shush IF defence.
Captain Oscar Kahn then put the result beyond
doubt, adding a third goal to complete an accomplished
team performance and seal a 3–0 victory. |
