The
first half remained goalless, with both teams
battling hard to gain the upper hand. At the
equivalent stage in the group game Fog Lane
Albion were 3-0 up so FC Maroon had given themselves
a platform to go on and win this.
As
the second half unfolded, the tension mounted,
and the match remained tightly contested. It
took a moment of brilliance from Rohan Hope
to break the deadlock. Hope found the back of
the net, scoring the only goal of the match
and securing victory for his team.
Rohan
Hope's goal showcased his ability to rise to
the occasion in big matches. This was his second
goal of the day with the other coming in the
Semi-Final. He was proving to be a pivotal player
for FC Maroon when it mattered most.
Fog
Lane Albion fought valiantly to find an equalizer,
but the FC Maroon defence held strong, denying
them any clear-cut scoring opportunities. Despite
their efforts, Fog Lane Albion couldn't find
a breakthrough, and the final whistle blew to
conclude proceedings.
The
final score was 1-0 to FC Maroon and they had
been full value for the win in this Plate Final.
It was a remarkable turnaround in form from
that 5-0 defeat earlier in the day. From 1 point
in their first 3 games, they had put together
a run of 4 successive victories to claim the
Plate title today.
We'd
like to thank Fog Lane Albion for attending
and offer our commiserations for the Final.
They could not have come much closer to glory.
They earned runners-up medals in the presentation
to cushion the blow. Their two teams had performed
superbly on debut also reaching the Cup Semi-Final.
Many
congratulations to our winners – FC Maroon.
In the FC Dad/FC Maroon/FC Shark camp that is
now 5 Plate victories secured to add to the
2017 Mallorca Fives, 2018 Gdansk Tournament
(both FC Shark), 2020 Warsaw Tournament (FC
Dad), 2021 Barcelona Fives and 2023 Amsterdam
Sixes (both FC Maroon). A mightily impressive
haul.
