Round 5 of Group B and it was the final chance for each team to stake their claim for Cup or Plate qualification. We began with Dnipro versus The Bastards.

Dnipro had just secured their first victory and if they could repeat that they could well be playing knockout football this afternoon. A draw or win would be good enough as long as it bettered the result of Armada All Stars' final game. They were currently a goal behind Armada All Stars in the table so if both teams won Dnipro would need a swing in goal difference. If both teams drew then Armada All Stars would progress.

The Bastards still had a chance. They had to win this and hope Armada All Stars lost. Or, if Armada All Stars drew then The Bastards would need a two goal swing in goal difference. If Armada All Stars won their final game, The Bastards could do nothing here to prevent elimination. They just had to get a result on the board here and hope for the best.

The Bastards begun well with Tom Vesa putting them ahead. So far so good as they maintained that lead until half-time. Dnipro hit back after the break though with Hamza Kamil making it 1-1 and then Mitch Scheiner completing the comeback to take all 3 points. Heartbreak for The Bastards who were out. Dnipro had boosted their chances and would now wait to see what Armada All Stars could do.

Dnipro would not have to wait long as Armada All Stars were up next. They were up against City FC – hardly the opponents you would choose for a must win game. As Dnipro had only won by the odd goal any form of win for Armada All Stars would be enough. Easier said than done though. Anything less would mean elimination.

City FC only needed a point to guarantee winning Group B but they would surely want the win to do it in style with a 100% and continue that momentum into the Cup competition. If they were to lose The Gentleman's Club could potentially catch them and overhaul them with a win subject to goal difference.

Sadly for Armada All Stars this game went with the form book. Steve Hodges opened his personal account for the day whilst Ben Kaye scored his second and Nathan Leather bagged his fourth. They signed off the group phase in ominous form for the other teams in the tournament. Armada All Stars were out of the Sevens but still very much in the thick of the action in the Fives – good luck to them in that.

The final game of Group B was The Gentleman's Club versus Milner Street. This was a straight shoot-out for the second Cup qualification berth. The loser would have the consolation of a place in the Plate.

The two teams were closely matched on the field and the teams could not be divided in the opening period. At 0-0, this was a result that favoured The Gentleman's Club as they were 2 points ahead in the table so a draw was enough for them to claim that Cup qualification place. The onus was therefore on Milner Street to sniff out that winning goal.

It was The Gentleman's Club who struck first though. David Aderkoya's third goal of the tournament could well have been enough to send his team through. However, Milner Street had other ideas. They equalized through James Gallagher but they still needed another.

Ultimately, The Gentleman's Club and the sands of time were against Milner Street as they ran up just short. A 1-1 draw in isolation was a good result against this opposition but in the context of the group it was not enough.

Congratulations to The Gentleman's Club for reaching the Cup. Milner Street would be a team to watch for the Plate title.
