The Gentleman's Club (Hol)

Group B began with Dnipro (Hol) hosting City FC (Eng). Both the home team and away team were making their eurofootballfives.com debut.

With 5 out of the 6 teams in Group B on debut this group was well and truly wide open. We had no idea what to expect regarding the respective strengths of the teams so this would make fascinating viewing. Dnipro and City FC had a chance to lay down a marker and make a statement for the other teams watching on.

It was Dnipro who made the early inroads at the start of the game. Clement Thery opened the scoring for the home team in the first half. City FC were soon into their stride though as they equalised through Charlie Simpson. With that first goal under their belts they went from strength to strength. Matt Maslen then put City FC 2-1 up to turn this game around. The English team then had a bit of breathing space as Nathan Leather put them 3-1 up. From here, City FC saw out the victory to claim all 3 points.

Dnipro could console themselves that they had 4 more group games to recover from this early setback.

The next two teams to step onto the field on Pitch 5 were the pleasantly named The Bastards representing the Netherlands and Milner Street representing England. Milner Street had lost a couple of players prior to the tournament but we had recruited a couple of loan players to boost their squad. This would be an interesting game for them as they integrated their signings into the team.

Their proved to be very little between these two teams as both defences dominated. Neither team could successfully find a breakthrough. The first half came and went with no goals. The second half also came and went with no goals.

Both teams could claim a hard earned point for their efforts. Only time would tell if this was a point gained or two points dropped.

Match 3 was Armada All Stars (Eng) versus debutants The Gentleman's Club (Hol). Armada All Stars were fighting for glory on four fronts with Groove Armada, Sporting Armada & Atletico Armada competing in the Fives and Armada All Stars competing here in the Sevens. The Sevens squad was a collaboration of players from the Groove, Atletico & Sporting squads.

It was The Gentleman's Club who made the initial breakthrough in this tie with David Adekoya on target for his team's first goal in our events. Myles O'Meally then added a second to strengthen their position. Will Wood was amongst the goals in the Fives tournament for Sporting Armada and he opened his account in the Sevens tournament to reduce the lead to 2-1.

The next goal was the critical one in this tie. Myles O'Meally scored it to kill off hopes of an Armada All Stars comeback. The Gentleman's Club were off to a winning start, 3-1.
