After 35 games of football we came down to the big one. Game 36 – The 2024 Amsterdam Fives Cup Final.

The two teams set to do battle for the honour and glory of victory represented England and Switzerland. England and the Netherlands had dominated this tournament since it's debut in 2008. Last year we had our first winner from outside those two nations when Foot 130 of France were victorious. Luca Toni FC could become the fourth nation to lift this title. Jamaica Bell were carrying the flag for England. At this stage they were flying high in the Fives and the Sevens. To date, no-one had won both titles on the same day. Foot 130 came close last year when they also had a Cup SF in the Sevens along with the Fives title. In 2017, Vieze Vu/Toros came close when they won the Sixes and came runners-up in the Fives on the same day.

Let's have a look at today's finalists to preview the action:

Jamaica Bell (Eng)

Best appearance to date: Debut

Record today: Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 0.

Goal difference today: +12 (20-8)

Current unbeaten run: 6 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Leo Thom (8)

Clean sheets: 3

Luca Toni FC (Swi)

Best appearance to date: Cup SF 2017 Krakow Trophy, 2017 Barcelona Fives, 2019 Amsterdam Fives, 2022 Mallorca Fives.

Record today: Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 0.

Goal difference today: +10 (21-11)

Current unbeaten run: 6 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Carlos Gazapo (10)

Clean sheets: 0

These two teams had met before, in Group A, earlier in the day and played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. If we were to get a repeat I don't think there would be any complaints from the crowd watching on. So, those are the facts and figures – where's your money?

The first half proved to be an even affair. Jamaica Bell hit the front when Leo Thom took his tally to the day to 9. Luca Toni FC were quick to respond as Paul McFarlen levelled at 1-1. The match was delicately poised heading into the second period.

It was Carlos Gazapo who struck first with 11 goals for the tournament. His 11 goals would earn him the title of tournament top scorer – a fine achievement but he had eyes on the prize for his team. At 2-1 up they were not safe. At 3-1 they were in a healthier position with Paul McFarlen scoring his second goal of the Cup Final. The game was not won though and Jamaica Bell staged a heroic comeback. Sam Jackson's 5 th of the day renewed hope and Leo Thom's 10 th of the day meant we were all square at 3-3 again, just as we were in the group game.

The momentum was with Jamacia Bell but it was Luca Toni who wrestled back control to get their noses in front. This time it was Marco Amezcua who was on target – his second of the day and certainly the most valuable. It was the goal that won the 2024 Amsterdam Fives for Luca Toni!

Eventually, time ran out for Jamaica Bell but they had put in a magnificent shift. They were unbeaten in the tournament right up until the final moments. They could not have come much closer to victory. Both teams should be commended for their efforts and for treating the spectators to an exciting spectacle of football.

Our congratulations go to Luca Toni FC – 2024 Amsterdam Fives Champions! They had demonstrated that persistence and hard work pays off after disappointment at the Cup Semi-Final stage not once, not twice, not thrice but four times. This would make victory today taste so much sweeter. We always felt Luca Toni FC had a tournament victory in them and today they realized that success.

Thank you to all the teams who competed. We hope to see you all again at another eurofootballfives.com tournament very soon.
