Round 2 started off with RFM and Athletico Do Hollande in action – we were treated to a fantastic game too. The two teams were no strangers to each other having met twice before with Athletico Do Hollande winning on both occasions 3-1 and 6-0. This game was not so one-sided.

RFM put up a great fight and matched their illustrious opponents in many ways. Jerrel Fraenk gave Athletico Do Hollande a 1-0 first-half lead. There then came 3 huge moments in the game.

Moment 1: RFM win a penalty but it's saved.

Moment 2: Athletico Do Hollande look certain to make it 2-0 until a great save from Mick Walsh turning the ball over the bar….unfortunately Walsh was a defender and not the goalkeeper. It was a red card and RFM were down to 4 men.

Moment 3: Resulting penalty is saved.

After all that action we were still close at 1-0 but the fact RFM were down to 4-men limited their chances as an attacking force and Athletico Do Hollande maintained their lead until full time. A great game and it was 2 wins for Athletico Do Hollande. RFM had just 1 point out of 6 to show for their efforts but there was plenty of time left for them to recover.

Fat Ginger Kids went into Round 2 looking to build upon their opening point and claim their first victory of the day when they met Rovers United. Rovers United had the chance to bounce back from defeat against Athletico Do Hollande. Although there was no shame in that defeat starting off with a loss can cause a damage to confidence.

If there was crisis of confidence, Fat Ginger Kids took full advantage as Paddy Gillett and then Rob Logan helped them to a 2-0 lead. Rovers United reduced the arrears to 2-1 and it was still only half-time.

In the second half Rovers United tried their best to get on level terms but Fat Ginger Kids held on to a richly earned victory and they had 4 points out of 6 – a great early return and they sat 2nd in the table. It was a second defeat for Rovers United but as we mentioned for RFM there was still plenty of time and a potential 9 points to play for.

We finished off Round 2 with Double Ya Dosage versus Missing Magpies. Both teams had a draw to show for their first game efforts and a win would see the victor move into 2nd place. A draw would see them safely occupying the mid-table places but defeat would see the losers losing ground on those above them.

So, a win would prove hugely valuable here and Tom Bird put the Missing Magpies ahead in the opening period. The lead did not last long though as Alec Witts hit back for 1-1. In the second half both teams pushed for the win and Missing Magpies came closest when Luke Bird hit the post and minutes later Matt Walton hit the same post. In the end there was no further score and the game finished 1-1.

Both teams secured their second draw in as many games and were challenging Drum Major FC for the title of draw specialists in this tournament!
