The current holders of the Amsterdam Fives vacated their title this year as Inter Women tried their luck in our 2012 Mallorca Tournament. The 2012 Amsterdam Fives was therefore guaranteed a new winner this year – who would it be?

First up in the challenge was Pimp My Side FC versus CEPL. Pimp My Side FC almost had a tournament victory under their belts when they reached the 2010 Krakow Trophy final but lost narrowly 1-0 to Hutnik. They built on their debut in the 2009 Prague Masters and proved a strong side. They finished with an unbeaten group record finishing 2nd behind the defending champions Goldsmith Williams before bowing out at the quarter-final stage to 3-time semi-finalists SK Zelenec. Their last eurofootballfives adventure was in the 2011 Algarve Open where they finished runners-up to Eagles UnAthletic in the Plate Final. They were going to be a team to watch.

CEPL are a Dutch team based in Tilburg and will be making the 90 minute or so journey to Amsterdam to play their 3rd eurofootballfives.com tournament. On their debut in the 2011 Krakow Trophy they finished a very respectable second and boasted the tournament's top goalscorer amongst their ranks. They also played in the 2011 Amsterdam Fives where they were one of four teams locked at 7 points in joint 3 rd in their group. They went on to reach the Plate Semi-Final where they went out to a spirited Deportivo Dooradoyle performance, 3-1.

On the pitch it was CEPL who struck the first goal of Group A when Milo Brown made it 1-0 to the home side. In the second half Adrian Tezyk made it 2-0 to CEPL and it would be a long back for Pimp My Side. Final score, 2-0.

Next up on Pitch A was Wilhelmus versus Drum Major FC. We were delighted to welcome back Wilhelmus to compete in their 3rd eurofootballfives.com tournament. The team travelled from The Hague to compete in the competition and were looking to improve on their previous best - Plate Semi-Finals in both 2009 and 2010 when they went out to the eventual Plate winners on both occasions.

Drum Major FC were making their debut and so were an unknown quantity in eurofootballfives.com competition. Things didn't start too well for them as Michael Sanderson put Wilhelmus 1-0 up. Drum Major FC hit back through Christian Leslie to make things 1-1 and things were looking brighter. They were unable to maintain parity until half-time though as Sanderson restored the Wilhelmus lead and it was the Dutch team who lead 2-1 at the break.

Drum Major FC were showing they were not a team to be defeated easily as Matt Buck drew them level for the second time in the game as he made it 2-2. It was a goal that would earn them a good opening point.

The final two teams to begin their challenge in Group A were Room 20 and El A Dees. Similarly to Drum Major FC, Room 20 were on debut so this was our first look at them in action. El A Dees made their debut in the November 2011 Barca Fives where they made a fine impact winning their 5-team group ahead of a talented Samurai Japan team. They then fell at the Cup Quarter-Final stage 2-1 to 2009 winners Rapid Bosco Navas. They'll be a team to watch in Amsterdam.

Things started well for El A Dees as they made the better of the starts and took a narrow 2-1 advantage into the break thanks to a double strike from Oliver Wood. A Jon Jagger goal kept Room 20 in the hunt. In fact Room 20 were never really out of this game and Jagger scored again in the second half but it was not enough to prevent them slipping to defeat as Gaz Lawrence scored what proved to be the winning goal. Their campaign was off and running with a 3-2 win and they were now unbeaten in 5 eurofootballfives.com group game matches.
