We were now past the halfway stage at the 2012 Amsterdam Fives and with just one point separating the six teams there was all to play for. With the group being so tight and the group reaching its conclusion a win now would be hugely valuable for the victors, a draw would give opportunities to other and a defeat would be damaging….but not necessarily the end of the world depending upon what else happened in Round 4.

The first two teams to take the field in Round 4 and have their chance were Room 20 and Pimp My Side FC. The two teams reached half-time level at 0-0 and the pressure was growing on the teams – no-one could afford a slip up now. Perhaps that had a bearing on this fixture as neither team gave their opponents an inch but at the same time neither team could force a way past their opposing goalkeeper.

At the end of the game we had our first 0-0 draw in Group A as the teams each earned a point. It meant the teams were top of the table with 5 points each….for the moment at least.

Wilhelmus and El A Dees were two of the other teams on 4 points hoping to capitalize upon the above draw with a victory that would see them take the outright lead in Group A. Wilhelmus had just taken their first 3 points with a fine win over CEPL and if they could keep this form up they would top the table. El A Dees had started well with a win but followed this up with a draw and then a defeat. They needed to turn their sliding form around and return to winning ways – now would be the perfect time to do it.

The game was following a similar pattern to the Room 20 versus Pimp My Side game and we reached half-time all square at 0-0. If things stayed this way we would have four teams still level at the top of the table with just a game to go.

The game didn't stay 0-0 in the second half as we saw goals but ultimately we were back to square one as the goals were shared and we finished 1-1. It was Michael Sanderson for Wilhelmus who had scored his fifth goal of the game and was an early contender for the tournament top goalscorer award. It was Gaz Lawrence's second goal of the tournament that found the target for El A Dees.

So, both teams would go into their last game needing a result to secure their fate in this tournament.

To complete Round 4 we had CEPL against Drum Major FC. CEPL's form had mirrored that of El A Dees reading Win-Draw-Loss and so a return to winning ways was just what the doctor ordered for them. Drum Major FC had been the model of consistency with a record of Draw-Draw-Draw. If they could find a way to win in this game they would jump from 6th to 1st in the blink of an eye and be in pole position going into the final round of fixtures.

Things weren't going to plan for Drum Major FC though as they found themselves 3-1 down at half-time. Ariel Golinas, Kryzysztof Szwagrzyk and Adrian Tezyk had put CEPL in firm control of this tie. Danny Harris had bagged his third goal of the tournament to give them a glimmer of hope in the second period.

Drum Major FC had shown a number of times today they were a tough team to beat and more than able of coming from behind but this was the first time they had a two goal deficit to recover. Ultimately it proved beyond them as CEPL held out to complete a fine 3-1 win. It was a great win for CEPL who made massive gains in Group A by opening up a 2 point lead at the top of the table. Cup qualification was firmly in their own hands.

For Drum Major FC it was a bad time to lose their first game but all was not lost. They were just two points of the teams in 2nd to 5th so if they could grab a win in their last game the Cup/Plate were both in reach subject to other results.
