JNJ
Pencoed had just earned their first victory
and if they could take this momentum on and
put a string of results together Cup qualification
was in reach but they needed victories. They
met JNJ Wuppertal who were also upwardly mobile
having won their last two games. This was a
massive game in the context of Group A. If JNJ
Pencoed could win it they would make a 3-way
tie in 2nd place on 6 points (with JNJ Russia
B still to play below). A win for JNJ Wuppertal
would put them in pole position for the Cup
and wipe out Pencoed's chances in the process.
The
win against GBS Reds had done wonders for JNJ
Pencoed's morale and they surged into a 2-0
lead against their opponents from Wuppertal.
Hefin Davies started the bal rolling with his
second goal in as many games and Lyndon Thomas
made it 2-0. We were still to reach half-time.
JNJ
Wuppertal had it all to do in the second half
and had a mountain to climb. Welsh hearts must
have been pumping harder when Christavao Mendes
Fernandes scored his third of the day to pull
it back to 2-1. JNJ Wuppertal were unable to
find an equalizer and they slipped to a 2-1
defeat. It was a huge blow for their Cup qualification
chances.
For
JNJ Pencoed it was a superb win, 2 in a row
now for them. They now had a chance to make
the Cup themselves but almost certainly had
secured a Plate place at the very least.
