Game
8 was the heavyweight contest of Group A as
JNJ Russia B took on JNJ High Wycombe A. Both
teams had won their first two games, both teams
were yet to concede a goal and both teams were
looking in good form. JNJ Russia B had been
more free-scoring and lead the group on goal
difference. A draw would be good enough for
them to maintain that lead. With JNJ Wuppertal
moving level on 6 points it was getting tight
at the top of the table and this game was hugely
important.
The
two teams were pretty evenly matched and there
was little to choose between the two teams.
It was perhaps no surprise with two good defences
that we entered the break all square at 0-0.
The
second half followed much the same pattern but
there was to be a goal and there was to be a
winner. When the goal came it was an own goal
– it wasn't a mistake from JNJ Russia B but
an own goal forced by some quality attacking
pressure from JNJ High Wycombe A. The English
team took all 3 points and they were in full
control of Group A.
JNJ
Russia B now had competition on their hands
from the German team to make the Cup qualification
places.
