Round 3 began with Hup Holland Hup taking on JNJ Wuppertal. The Dutch team had suffered two defeats thus far so the last thing they needed was to come up against a team who had just hit form. JNJ Wuppertal had just won 7-1 and came into this game on a high.

A win for JNJ Wuppertal would see them join JNJ Russia B and JNJ High Wycombe A at the top of Group A (temporarily at least) so there was much at stake for them. The German team was up for this and showed no signs of wanting to leave this game with anything less than 3 points. Christovao Mendes Fernandes scored for the second game running and JNJ Wuppertal were on their way. Rafael Jurek then added his sixth goal of the tournament to make it Germany 2-0 Holland at half-time.

After the break Rafael Jurek scored his seventh goal of the tournament to make it 3-0. With 7 goals in 3 games Jurek was looking a contender to be the tournament Golden Boot winner. The game finished 3-0 and JNJ Wuppertal moved on to 6 points.

Hup Holland Hup should not be too disappointed though – there was still 6 points to play for and they were only 3 points off the Plate qualification places. They still had much to play for.

Game 8 was the heavyweight contest of Group A as JNJ Russia B took on JNJ High Wycombe A. Both teams had won their first two games, both teams were yet to concede a goal and both teams were looking in good form. JNJ Russia B had been more free-scoring and lead the group on goal difference. A draw would be good enough for them to maintain that lead. With JNJ Wuppertal moving level on 6 points it was getting tight at the top of the table and this game was hugely important.

The two teams were pretty evenly matched and there was little to choose between the two teams. It was perhaps no surprise with two good defences that we entered the break all square at 0-0.

The second half followed much the same pattern but there was to be a goal and there was to be a winner. When the goal came it was an own goal – it wasn't a mistake from JNJ Russia B but an own goal forced by some quality attacking pressure from JNJ High Wycombe A. The English team took all 3 points and they were in full control of Group A.

JNJ Russia B now had competition on their hands from the German team to make the Cup qualification places.

To complete Round 3 was GBS Reds versus JNJ Pencoed. The two teams were desperate for the points for different reasons. JNJ Pencoed were yet to score and yet to pick up a point so really needed to get their challenge underway. GBS Reds had 3 points on the board but had just taken a 7-1 humbling. The Czech team needed to bounce back.

What followed was a really interesting game. The teams were level 1-1 at half-time as goals from Hefin Davies (JNJ Pencoed) and Jakub Salatek (GBS Reds) cancelled each other out. A draw was not much use for either team as a points tally of 1 from 3 games would leave JNJ Pencoed much to do in their final two games. GBS Reds would feel happier on 4 points but they arguably had their two toughest games to come. Could either side eek out a winner?

Yes they could and when the goal game it was a peach. A JNJ Pencoed break saw Mark Lewis free on the left and as Gordon MacIntosh in the GBS Reds came out to close down the angle he lifted a beautiful chip over the advancing goalkeeper. It was a superb goal and worthy of winning any game. JNJ Pencoed had their first European victory.
