Back
to the action on the field, Brewin Dolphin would
finish their campaign against FC Gijon. In all
likelihood, Brewin Dolphin would finish in fifth
place and be eliminated. Although they were
technically level with FC Gijon on points the
latter had a game in hand and were expected
to win this one based on previous results in
the group.
It
would take a Herculean effort for Brewin Dolphin
to turn their results around – psychologically
as much as anything else. They were there for
the taking and FC Gijon hit them for six. Lee
Sutton (2), Nick Harding, Jack Myers, Connor
Seymour and Kieran Eastwood all boosted their
personal goal tallies and their team's goal
difference.
The
game put Brewin Dolphin out of their footballing
misery. It was such a shame that injuries spoilt
their chance to compete as they had done in
Lisbon. We hope the footballing gods look kinder
on them in 2019 and they don't have another
touch of the Abou Diabys.
