CIS
Committee were back on the field in the Sixes
in game 8 of Group B. They would face FC Gijon
in each team's third fixture of the day. FC
Gijon had quite a job on their hands.
In
normal time (excluding extra time and penalty
shoot-outs), CIS Committee had only lost 1 game
out of 56 in eurofootballfives.com tournaments.
That was the Cup Final of the 2015 Budapest
Fives. On their most recent performance at the
2017 Vilnius Tournament t here were 4 wins out
of 4 in the group phase. They then completed
solid 2-0 and 3-1 wins over FC United of Bob
(Eng) and Funfoot (Ltu) to reach the Cup Final.
They met Lithuanian team Lilchicago and played
out a 0-0 draw. After an epic penalty shoot-out
they were victorious, 5-4.
With
this in mind, FC Gijon put up a great fight
and came as close as anyone today in taking
something from the team from Belarus. CIS Committee
had won 5-0 and 8-0 so far but they were held
to a narrow 2-1 lead at half-time. Kieran Eastwood
was the first man to score against Valeri Ivashka
today as he spoiled the goalkeeper's tournament
clean sheet. Aliaksandr Viazhevich and Ivan
Maksimovich goals meant the Belarus team had
the lead though.
FC
Gijon remained in the game right up until the
final whistle. They prevented CIS adding to
their lead. However, they were unable to force
an equalizer. It was an honourable defeat to
FC Gijon but a defeat nonetheless.
