We were now approaching the business end of the tournament with each team now having two games to go to stake their claim for Cup/Plate qualification. FC Letcom and Vieze Vu were up first in Round 4.

Vieze Vu continued to boast a 100% record – however, it was a 100% draw record rather than a 100% win record. Although unbeaten the draws were hindering their progress up the table. If they could finish win-win it might be enough to qualify for the Cup and keep their hopes alive. Teams had qualified with 9 points before but the odds were against them.

FC Letcom were in precisely the same position. They sat on three points but had achieved it in a different way – 2 losses, 1 win. That win was in the previous game so was maybe the catalyst for bigger and better things for them.

It was a goal-less first half. Were Vieze Vu heading for a fourth successive draw? The answer is no but it was not the win Vieze Vu were looking for. Instead it was a goal for Ameen Ahmed combined with a clean sheet for Peter Dickson that helped FC Letcom towards a 1-0 win. It was their second successive win. Was the beast awakening?

Round 4 of Group A continued with the two teams meeting in direct competition. IT was Cheesecake FC versus Ross Kemp FC. The former brought their 100% record to the table, Ross Kemp FC brought their unbeaten record. One of these teams would lost that record at the completion of this fixture.

Cheesecake FC lead their opponents by 2 points at the top of the table. They could secure Cup qualification and the Group A title with a game to spare if they could fashion their fourth victory here. Usually the games between the top two teams are close, tight affairs but this one proved to be a tad one-sided.

Unfortunately for Ross Kemp FC, Cheesecake FC seemed to raise their game to meet the challenge. Kevin Raphael scored twice in the first half with Jamie Ingley also scoring. After the break Kevin Raphael completed his hat-trick and Justin Rees also got his name on the score-sheet. With Gavin McEvoy's second clean sheet to boot, Cheesecake FC wrapped up their second 5-0 win of the morning.

Up next on Pitch A was Lostwithiel FC versus John Lewis FC. Lostwithiel FC started the game in fifth position but with a goal difference of just -2 they showed that they had been competitive despite 1 draw and 2 defeats. It seemed they were due a win and a match against the team in sixth position seemed the ideal opportunity.

However, John Lewis FC, having put their opening game defeat behind them had shown similar resilient form since with a 1-1 draw against the 2017 champions and a narrow defeat to FC Letcom. This also represented an opportunity for them to register their first win. Whoever could win this game would move up into fourth position and into the Plate qualification places. Defeat would make it virtually impossible to reach the Plate.

The first half in this fixture belonged to Lostwithiel FC. Jordan Cummings previously scored against Vieze Vu and he now added a brace to his CV and put his team in control. They lead 2-0 at the break.

Lostwithiel FC had come from 2 goals down to secure a draw in Round 1. They were on the receiving end this time. The second half belonged to John Lewis FC. Alex Eyre reduced the deficit 2-1 before Adam Leake levelled it up at 2-2.

It was a second draw and a second point for each of these teams. The result did not change the positions in the table but it did bring them a point closer to Vieze Vu in fourth place. These teams still had a chance of making the Plate as we went into Round 5.
