FC Gijon had to wait slightly for their first bit of action today due to the no-show of Horse and Trumpet FC. They picked up a 3-0 walkover win for that game. A quick re-jig of the fixtures meant we got them on Pitch 5 for the next game in Group B. Their opponents would be Top Bunners.

We hoped Top Bunners would take to the field without any scarring from their encounter with CIS Committee. They lost that one 5-0 but this was a chance to make amends. In a 6-team group there is often the chance to recover from such a loss.

The fresh legs of FC Gijon struck first in this game. Nick Harding was the man who would go down in the record books for scoring FC Gijon's first goal in eurofootballfives.com competition. It wound not be quite enough to give them a lead at the break as Adam Hale equalized at 1-1. He was to be his team's first scorer in our events.

Could anyone find a winner in the second half? Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Dimitri Purcell. His goal completed the comeback for Top Bunners from 1-0 down to 2-1 up. The men in orange had their first win on the board.

In Round 1 we touched briefly upon Brewin Dolphin's Lisbon debut in our events. To expand on this, they made a storming start with 3-0 wins over ADP Netherlands (Hol) and Retainers Academy (Eng) before a narrow 1-0 defeat to Barrymoore's Swimming Club who won the group without conceding a goal. They returned to winning ways thanks to a 1-0 win over Cruz Del Sur B. Results then tailed off as Brewin Dolphin finished 6 th of 8 teams (1 more win would have seen them finish third).

They qualified for the Plate and recorded a 2-1 win over Lun-don FC before drawing 1-1 with FC Seagrave in the Semi-Finals. They won 2-1 on penalties to set up a final against AAK S&S. It proved to be one match too far as they missed out on the title.

Today, they made an inauspicious start with a heavy defeat at the hands of SDZ3. That start was to get worse against CIS Committee. The Belarus team hit four in each half to secure an 8-0 win.

Ivan Maksimovich, Aliaksandr Chaikouski (x2), Aliaksandr Viazhevich (x2) and Sergei Livotchkin kept the scorers busy.

To complete Round 2 was the dead rubber between Horse and Trumpet FC and SDZ3. The Dutch team were awarded their 3-0 walkover.
