We were at the 2018 Amsterdam Sixes Cup Semi-Finals stage and from the 12 teams who signed up for the tournament we were down to the final 4. We had travelling teams from Belarus and England looking to take the prized trophy on the return flight home. We also had Dutch team looking to keep the aforementioned trophy within the borders of the Netherlands.

The first Cup Semi-Final would be contested by Cheesecake FC and SDZ3. Cheesecake FC were the stand out team in Group A with a 100% record from their first 5 games. They scored a sensational 18 goals going forward whilst being strong at the back – conceding just 2.

This was Cheesecake FC's seventh Cup Semi-Final in our tournaments and matched their achievement from last year. Last year they went out 2-1 to Toros. This year they were aiming to reach their third eurofootballfives.com Cup Final.

SDZ3 finished second in Group B where they finished with 4 wins out of 5. That one solitary defeat came to CIS Committee. SDZ3 had also scored 18 goals but conceded 4 in total. SDZ3 were on debut and so this was their first taste of knock-out action in our events.

It was the Dutch who lead at half-time – Roger Van Der Zwan with his fifth goal of the tournament. Cheesecake FC avoided going out to Dutch opposition for the second year in a row though as they hit back to win it 3-2 after the break. Kevin Raphael struck his 9th and 10th of the tournament either side of Justin Rees' 4th strike of the Sixes tournament.

The day was over for SDZ3 on the pitch at least. It was a great debut and on another day they could easily have gone a step further into the final. For the record, their final goal of the tournament was scored by Luigi Janssen.

So, who would take their place in the Final from the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to do battle were CIS Committee against Ross Kemp FC.

If you though Cheesecake FC had an impressive record in the group phase then you would be even more impressed with the record of CIS Committee. 5 games, 5 wins, 15 points. 21 goals scored and just 2 goals conceded. That was the size of the task facing Ross Kemp FC as they aimed to make the Cup Final on debut.

The weight of history was on the side of the team from Minsk. CIS Committee had been in 6 eurofootballfives.com Semi-Finals before. They had progressed to the Cup Final on 5 of those occasions. Only Budapest Celtic Greens had been successful against them at the 2016 Budapest Fives – that was on a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 draw.

Ross Kemp FC had been excellent on debut though. Although second in their group they finished above defending champions Vieze Vu and above last year's Group A winners FC Letcom. With that in mind, could CIS Committee be the next prized scalp?

It was not to be though as CIS Committee raised their game. They often seem to stroll through the group phase of our tournaments and then crank it up at the business end of the tournament. They did so again here. Ross Kemp must have felt like a straw house in the path of a tornado as CIS Committee were ruthless in their destruction.

Ivan Maksimovich, Ihar Shcherbich, Aliaksandr Viazhevich and Aliaksandr Chaikouski made it 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 respectively. Then the whistle blew….for half-time. Pavel Tumash (x2) and Ivan Maksimovich extended that lead to 7-0 by full-time. It was a sensational display by CIS Committee.

We had to say farewell to Ross Kemp FC – this final match should not take anything away from their efforts today. A magnificent debut.
