The
first final of the day would see Deportivo Dooradoyle
and Rigford Seahawks Omega come head-to-head to
lift the 2011 Amsterdam Fives Plate Title. Who
would emerge victorious? Well, we could look at
their previous encounter in the group stage to
give us a clue. On that occasion the Rigford Seahawks
had emerged victorious, 2-1. That was the group
stages though and it meant nothing now.
With
seven games of football already under their belt
the two teams would need to summon one last burst
of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners
and not runners-up medals in the presentation.
Rigford Seahawks had been in two eurofootballfives.com
finals before with a 100% success record that
reads;
2009
Krakow Trophy Cup Final: 1-0 win versus Wola (Pol)
2009
Prague Trophy Plate Final: 5-0 win versus SK Zelenec
(Cze)
A
repeat result would make a nice little hat-trick!
In contrast, Deportivo Dooradoyle were relative
novices and on their first European tour. They
had done superbly on their debut to reach a European
final but could do nothing to prevent Tom Hallam
giving the Seahawks a 1-0 half-time lead. It was
Hallam's 7th goal of the day and arguably his
most important. As you can see from the Seahawks
record in finals they were yet to concede – Deportivo
would have to break this record to give themselves
a chance of picking up the winners medals.
It
was a task that was to prove beyond them as Seahawks
keeper Alex Harding kept a clean sheet. There
was no further scoring at the other end either
and 1-0 was the final score. Many congratulations
to our winners – 3 eurofootballfives tours, 3
trophies.
Deportivo
Dooradoyle, whilst disappointed, should not disconsolate
though as they added a great deal to this tournament
and we are sure success will come to them in future
tournaments. The 2011 Amsterdam Fives Plate Winners
– Rigford Seahawks Omega. |
