This
meant the final game of Group B was a straight
shoot-out between The Gunners and Rigford Seahawks
Omega. Should the game finish in a draw then
Rigford Seahawks Omega would claim the final
Cup qualification place courtesy of their superior
goal difference. They also had the incentive
of joining their Alpha squad in the elite Cup
competition.
Both
teams had so far produced mixed displays and
every time you thought they'd kick on a defeat
reared its ugly head – neither could afford
such a defeat at this stage. When the referee
got the game underway it was The Gunners who
took the initiative when Sonny Javes put them
1-0 up. He doubled the advantage to make it
2-0 before half-time and The Gunners were well
and truly in the driving seat.
Rigford
Seahawks Omega had it all to do. They had one
half of football to revive their hopes of taking
the overall 2011 Amsterdam Fives title. Could
they do it? If they were they would need to
overcome a 3-0 deficit as Sonny Javes completed
a fine hat-trick and what an important game
to score it in. It was a hat-trick that ensured
three points and ensured his team's safe passage
into the Cup Quarter-Finals.
Rigford
Seahawks Omega found the deficit too much to
comeback from and they would go through to the
Plate Quarter-Finals. Although they could not
join their sister squad in the Cup it did throw
up the possibility of the Rigford Seahawks becoming
the first club to win Cup and Plate in the same
tournament.
