The
next fixture of Dark Horses versus CUGO was, on
paper, the tie of the round with both teams on
6 and both teams needing a win. A draw would not
do either team's hopes of making the Cup much
good as it would leave them each on 7 points,
2 points behind the top 2. A win would elevate
the victors to join top whereas defeat would almost
certainly consign the losers to the Plate.
When
the game got underway it was captain Richard Walker
again, with his fourth of the competition, who
broke the deadlock for Dark Horses. The English
team went into the break 1-0 up and it was all
to do for CUGO of Scotland. In the second half
they needed a performance to emulate the one that
defeated Goldsmith Williams in Round 2. Stephen
Maxwell was the goalscoring hero yet again as
he drew the teams level at 1-1. Neil Sounness
then made it 2-1 for CUGO to swing the momentum
in the Scottish team's favour. When Stephen Maxwell
added his second of the game to make it 3-1 the
points were safe and it crowned a magnificent
second half comeback. Maxwell was now on 5 for
the competition and level with Liam Currie. The
3 points also put them joint top but in 3 rd place
on goal difference but with the distinct possibility
of making the Cup. Dark Horses were more or less
consigned to the Plate but with a very remote
chance of making the Cup needing to win their
last game big and rely on other results helping
them out.
