One
of the best aspects of CUGO's defeat of Goldsmith
Williams was the added spice it would bring to
the game between Duevi 1997 and Goldsmith Williams.
Goldsmith Williams had never been in a position
where they really needed to win a group game but
this was the closest they had come. Duevi 1997
had a great opportunity to seal their place on
top of Group A and virtually guarantee their place
in the Cup already. If you are a man of logic
you would say that CUGO beat Goldsmith Williams
and Duevi 1997 beat CUGO so therefore Duevi 1997
should beat Goldsmith Williams. Simple?
Well
no, when has logic ever played a part in football
and Goldsmith Williams proved this theory was
as sound as BP's health and safety record in the
Gulf of Mexico . Maybe their delayed start left
them rusty against CUGO but if that was the case
they were firing on all cylinders now. Liam Currie
scored twice to put them on the road to victory
before Chris Williams added number 3 and Craig
Ralph number 4. A special mention is also due
to Gary Dean who kept a clean sheet against an
Italian attack that had been on a run of 5 goals
per game. Goldsmith Williams were back and in
style as they rose to the summit of Group A. Did
anyone really doubt them?
