The
2014 Algarve Open Plate Final was to be contested
by 11 Esperancas Faz Clube (Portugal) and Far
Out FC (England). The current holders of this
title, Water Boy, were competing in the Cup Final
and so it was 11 Esperancas Faz Clube who would
hope to continue home success in this competition.
It
was the Portuguese team who came closest to opening
the scoring as Joao Fajardo hit the post in the
early stages. Tom Lambourne then forced a good
save from the Vando Beldade in the 11 Esperancas
Faz Clube goal. The Far Out FC goalkeeper was
then forced to make a good save of their own before
11 Esperancas Faz Clube player Marco Brito came
close to an own goal. It was a pretty even first
half and the score reflected that – 0-0 at the
break.
The
second half was largely midfield sparring with
little in the way of clear cut chances. The first
real chance fell to Joe Bardwell who struck a
sharp chance but it ended up firing straight at
the goalkeepers midriff. Not long afterwards came
the key moment of the game as Joao Fajardo put
11 Esperancas Faz Clube 1-0 up.
It
proved to be a match winning goal as Far Out FC
were unable to get back on level terms and penetrate
the 11 Esperancas Faz Clube defence. The Portuguese
team were victorious and became the first team,
we think, to take a selfie whilst receiving medals
during the presentation. We fear they may have
started a trend!
Our
congratulations go to 11 Esperancas Faz Clube
on a fine performance and their victory. Our condolences
go to Far Out FC who were once again a great asset
to a eurofootballfives.com tournament and they
would collect runners-up medals for their efforts.
