Group B began with Red Cow Belgrade from England taking on Mini FC of Portugal. Red Cow Belgrade made their eurofootballfives.com debut last year in the 2013 Budapest Fives and finished 4th in their 6-team group – a group that featured both the eventual finalists. They will be hoping for a kinder draw this year in Portugal. Mini FC were on debut so this was our first chance to see their footballing credentials.

 

Mini FC began like the proverbial house on fire and quickly raced into a 2-0 lead by half-time. Nuno Delgado got the ball rolling before Sergio Custodio made it 2-0 and Mini FC announced themselves in eurofootballfives.com competition.

 

Could Red Cow Belgrade respond after the break? It was an improved performance but they could not prevent Mini FC extending their lead to 3-0 as Nelio Guerreiro completed the scoring.

 

Red Cow Belgrade must have thought they'd drawn another Group of Death!

 
 
 

Next up was 11 Esperancas Faz Clube of Portugal against Scoregasm of England. The Portuguese were making their debut but Scoregasm had experience of our events before.

 

Scoregasm made their debut in the 2011 Mallorca Tournament and finished 2nd in their group behind Quayaquil 100% of Ecuador. They went on to the Cup Semi-Finals where they lost to Policia Local de Palma (Spa) – the eventual winners. It's great to see the lads back on tour in 2014!

 

It was the Portuguese who struck the first blow as Pedro Botelho opened the scoring but they did not have it all their own way as Scoregasm forced the Portuguese goalkeeper into a couple of good saves and Ross Penrose struck the post but they could not prevent going into the interval a goal down.

 

After the break Ricardo Vargues struck a free kick that made it 2-0 and effectively sealed the win for the home team.

 
 
 

Game 3 of Group B was another Portuguese debutant versus an experienced English team in our tournaments. The team representing Portugal was Galacticos (not to be confused with the English team who competed here last year).

 

FC Hollywood were making it 3 successive appearances in the Algarve Open when they take to the field on the 17 th may. They made their eurofootballfives.com debut in 2012 and finished 2nd in their group behind the 2012 Valencia Fives champtions, FC Miracle of Hungary. In the Cup Quarter-Final they pushed eventual winners, ManDem United, closer than anyone but went out 4-2. In 2013, they finished 3rd in a very tight group but qualified for the Cup again. They drew 0-0 in the Quarter-Final and were taken to extra time where they lost a Golden Goal to CFC (Fra). Can they reach the Semi-Final or further this year?

 

It was not an ideal start as Mauro Cardoso gave Galacticos a first half lead. FC Hollywood were not to be beaten though as Tom Wilson levelled things up after break and earned a 1-1 draw for his side.
