Round 5 began with 11 Esperancas Faz Clube and Red Cow Belgrade. Red Cow Belgrade knew they would finish in 6th place and that this would be their final fixture of the day – they would look to bow out with a bit of a flourish. For 11 Esperancas Faz Clube there was still much to play for but they needed a win. A defeat would mean 5th place and elimination. A draw might be enough but they would need FC Hollywood to lose by 3 goals. If they could win then this would force FC Hollywood to win in order for them not to qualify.

11 Esperancas quest for victory started well as they took a first half lead through Pedro Botelho. In the second half was one of the comical moments of the day as Ricardo Cartaxo was presented with a chance from about 6 yards. The Red Cow Belgrade keeper came out to block and looked like he had it covered until Cartaxo mishit it, looked like with a sand wedge, and the ball looped up and in at an incredible angle to drop and nestle in the net. It was a curious goal and Cartaxo was highly embarrassed and looked to hide rather than to celebrate. It summed up Red Cow Belgrade's luck today as they exited the competition with a 2-0 defeat.

11 Esperancas Faz Clube had done their bit – they needed to sweat on other results. For Red Cow Belgrade it was a tough day at the office but we knew we would see them again in October for the Barcelona Fives. We look forward to seeing you all then.

Into Game 15 of Group B and there was still much to decide. Scoregasm could clinch second place and Cup qualification with a win or a draw. FC Hollywood were still very in it and a win for them would see them move onto 8 points and leapfrog both Scoregasm and Galacticos. However, a draw or defeat would mean FC Hollywood would be out of the competition. Their future in this tournament was really on a roller-coaster knife-edge (to mix metaphors).

We reached half-time all square at 0-0 and it was pretty even. In the second half FC Hollywood were pushing forward with the urgency you would expect for a team who had to win the game. Scoregasm seemed fairly content and unhurried knowing that a draw would see them through. As the second half progressed FC Hollywood were pushing forward more and more and leaving more and more space in behind. Although still in the group phase this was becoming like a knock-out Cup tie.

FC Hollywood certainly weren't going to go out wondering but the Scoregasm defence held firm and then when a FC Hollywood move broke down with men high up the pitch. Scoregasm swiftly countered and saw Penrose round the keeper but hit the post. Bradley Cross was first to the rebound to sweep home as defenders through themselves at the ball in desperation. In that moment you felt that both teams knew that was the winner and so it proved. Scoregasms progressed to the Cup. FC Hollywood in the cruellest of fashion said farewell to their 3rd Algarve Open challenge.
