Mini
FC entered another top of the table clash in
the penultimate fixture of Group B. They met
Galacticos who were in 2nd position courtesy
of goal difference over Scoregasm. Mini FC only
needed a point to secure Cup qualification and
the Group B title. Defeat for Mini FC combined
with a win for Scoregasm would see a 3-way tie
and it come down to goal difference. Mini FC
had a healthy goal difference so would probably
be alright. Galacticos had to better the result
of Scoregasm to go through and if they matched
the result would need to retain the superior
goal difference to make the Cup.
There
was so much riding on this game the tension
was palpable. It was Mini FC who would be celebrating
in the early stages as they forged a 2-0 lead
through Nelio Guerreiro and Artur Rosso. It
looked all over for Galacticos but they had
a lifeline – a clever free kick saw an audacious
chip over the goalkeeper and a defender handling
the ball on the line to prevent the goal. The
referee signaled for a penalty and brandished
the red card. Mauro Cardoso dragged them back
into by converting the penalty for 2-1. The
game was back in the balance and if Galacticos
could rescue a draw they still had a chance
of making the Cup. However, Mini FC held on
and time ran out for Galacticos.
Mini
FC were crowned Group B champions and marched
into the Cup Semi-Finals. For Galacticos it
meant they could no longer make the Cup and
the Plate would await them.
