FC
Hollywood were up next against Mini FC in a
really hard fought contest. FC Hollywood came
into the game on the back of a point and having
grabbed the equalizer would carry the momentum
into this game. Mini FC had started superbly
with a 3-0 win and were looking to keep up maximum
points.
In
the end it was a game that was to be decided
by set pieces. The best opportunity of the first
half fell to Nuno Delgado for Mini FC but he
failed to convert a difficult chance. With the
game seemingly moving to a goal-less first half
there was late drama. Mini FC earned a free
kick just outside the FC Hollywood area – the
English player eased the Portuguese forward
off the ball robustly – you've seen them given
but you've also seen them waved on. It was a
50/50 call and the referee gave it. From the
resulting free kick Nelio Guerreiro thumped
it home.
After
the break a Portuguese claim for a free kick
was turned down as a strong block with the chest
of the English defender was rightly waved play
on. Portuguese players were complaining and
wanting the free kick, English players were
complaining to the referee although nothing
was given. Two players were alive to the situation
though (one from each side) and the Portuguese
player got to the ball first – just – and a
clip of the ankles meant it was a free-kick
to Portugal. It wasn't deliberate but a foul
nonetheless. I think there was some confusion
with players assuming the first non-offence
was given when it hadn't been. After all the
madness Nelio Guerreiro stepped up to blast
another direct free-kick into the back of the
net. 2-0 and game over.
In
open play nothing between the teams but Guerreiro's
free-kick prowess had earned a second victory
for Mini FC.
