Scoregasm and Red Cow Belgrade both came into Round 2 looking to avenge opening game defeats and get their 2014 Algarve Open challenge properly underway.

It was Scoregasm who opened the scoring through Bradley Cross and that's how it stayed until half-time. After the break Stephen Double struck the post for Scoregasm but they wouldn't have to wait too much longer for their 2-0 lead as Ross Penrose scored soon after.

Danny Thompson then put the icing on the cake and completed the scoring at 3-0. It was a fine response from Scoregasm who had last their opening game 2-0. The result saw them shoot up the table into 3rd position.

For Red Cow Belgrade it was a second defeat but in the 6-team group format they still had 3 more games to get back on track.

FC Hollywood were up next against Mini FC in a really hard fought contest. FC Hollywood came into the game on the back of a point and having grabbed the equalizer would carry the momentum into this game. Mini FC had started superbly with a 3-0 win and were looking to keep up maximum points.

In the end it was a game that was to be decided by set pieces. The best opportunity of the first half fell to Nuno Delgado for Mini FC but he failed to convert a difficult chance. With the game seemingly moving to a goal-less first half there was late drama. Mini FC earned a free kick just outside the FC Hollywood area – the English player eased the Portuguese forward off the ball robustly – you've seen them given but you've also seen them waved on. It was a 50/50 call and the referee gave it. From the resulting free kick Nelio Guerreiro thumped it home.

After the break a Portuguese claim for a free kick was turned down as a strong block with the chest of the English defender was rightly waved play on. Portuguese players were complaining and wanting the free kick, English players were complaining to the referee although nothing was given. Two players were alive to the situation though (one from each side) and the Portuguese player got to the ball first – just – and a clip of the ankles meant it was a free-kick to Portugal. It wasn't deliberate but a foul nonetheless. I think there was some confusion with players assuming the first non-offence was given when it hadn't been. After all the madness Nelio Guerreiro stepped up to blast another direct free-kick into the back of the net. 2-0 and game over.

In open play nothing between the teams but Guerreiro's free-kick prowess had earned a second victory for Mini FC.

The game that would complete Round 2 was Galacticos against 11 Esperancas Faz Clube. The latter were looking to make it two wins in two games whilst the former were looking for their first win of the day – both teams were unbeaten so far though.

A goal-less first half gave those watching little to cheer until a strong second half from Galacticos. Mauro Cardoso had scored in the opening fixture and he added to his tally after the break to give his side a 1-0 lead.

11 Esperances Faz Clube were unable to respond and in fact 1-0 became 2-0 when Cardoso made it 3 goals in 2 games to wrap up all 3 points for his Galacticos team.

The result put Galacticos 2nd in the early Group B table whilst 11 Esperancas Faz Clube slipped to 4th position.
