The
penultimate match of Group A was Olimpico of
Ecuador versus the form team CSF of England.
Olimpico were still looking for their first
win following 2 draws and 2 defeats. In what
was their last chance for victory they overpowered
the CSF whose recent form deserted them as Olimpico
raced into a 5-0 lead at half-time. It didn't
get much better in the second half as 5-0 became
9-2 for the highest scoring game of the tournament.
The main architect of the win was Olimpico's
Brayan Toro who scored an incredible seven.
He went goal crazy and in the space of one game
became a real contender for the tournament top
goalscorer as he moved onto 9 goals for the
day.
The
result had profound effects on the group. The
CSF could well have wrapped up qualification
for the Cup but the defeat opened the door for
3 Lions or Midway Northerners to claim that
spot. At the other end the size of the win meant
Olimpico jumped into 4th place relegating Askeaton
FC to 6th (surely the best team to ever finish
6th in a eurofootballfives group). It also meant
they were currently in the Plate competition
places and would qualify if Midway Northerners
FC lost their final game. Incredible stuff –
games are never dull when the CSF are about.
