Twelve
teams came to do battle at the 2011 Mallorca Tournament,
two remained - Policia Local de Palma and Quayaquil
100%. It was Spain versus Ecuador for the ultimate
prize.
We
were treated to a game that was worthy of a final
which was full of goals, entertainment and watched
by a supportive crowd who thoroughly enjoyed it.
The best thing about the final was that as the
two teams took to the field it was a 50/50 guess
on who would come out on top.
Policia
Local de Palma had managed to grind out results
all day with a certain amount of flair and great
deal of determination. Quayaquil 100% had been
flamboyant and been knocking in goals for fun.
They were on a great run of 5 games without a
defeat – a 6 th would see them emerge as champions.
The
first half gave us no real clues as to who would
be champions as the game swung from end to end
with the teams trading blows. Piero Zapata, with
number 10 for the day, put Quayaquil 100% in the
lead but Pedro Garcia pegged them back to 1-1.
We were down to one half of football to decide
the destination of the World Cup style trophy.
It
was Policia Local de Palma who claimed the third
goal through Garcia again and with that Quayaquil
100% seemed to wilt under the pressure. From there
the floodgates seemed to open and Policia de Palma
scored at relative ease through Pedro Barcelo,
Rafa Rafa and Barcelo again. The team from Ecuador
continued to push forward and Rolando Acuazado
scored his second of the day but it was immaterial
at the end. Final score, 5-2

Local de Palma.
There
was some personal consolation for Quayaquil 100%
as their comrade Piero Zapata emerged to win the
top goalscorer prize with a fantastic return of
10 goals in 7 games. A great achievement and a
well deserved trophy to you.
Our
congratulations also to FC Dukesfield in the Plate
competition. We would like to take this opportunity
to thank all our teams who participated in what
was a great day's competition. It was a pleasure
to host you all and great to share a few beers
at our post-tournament drinks in the evening.
We hope your head's on Sunday morning were not
as heavy as ours!
We
hope to see you all again at a tournament very
soon. |
