Each of the teams in Group A had two more games to stake their claim for qualification into the Cup or Plate depending on where they set their sights. Up first was Parques Tejo versus SNQTB in what would be the only Portugal v Portugal encounter in the group.

Parques Tejo had looked the stronger of the two teams this morning with a 4-1 win and their only defeat being to the league leaders. SNQTB had lost twice and a third successive defeat would leave them in real trouble at the foot of the table.

At the end of the first half Parques Tejo lead by the odd goal in three as Edson and Elton for Parques Tejo outgunned Luis Ribeiro's strike for SNQTB. After the break the goals continued to flow and it was Parques Tejo who enjoyed most of them. Edson went on to complete a hat-trick and Elton grabbed a second of the game.

There was a goal for Fernando Santos to give SNQTB a consolation but it was Parques Tejo were returned to winning ways with a 5-2 win.

We had just had our only all-Portugal contest in Group A and we would now have our only all-England contest as Your Mum entertained Southgate County. This could be a pivotal game in Group A as both teams sat on three points and both sat three points behind our joint leaders of World Pinteur and Parques Tejo. A win here would make it a three-way race at the top. A defeat would leave the losing team with the Plate to look forward to. A draw would not really help either too much in the context of the table.

It was Southgate County who struck first as Tony Sayers scored his second of the tournament. Southgate County were then in full control as Tony Sayers scored again to make it three goals in as many games. The half-time whistle went with the score at 2-0.

After the break the score remained 2-0 for a long period before we entered the final stages. The third goal of the game was the icing on the cake for Southgate County as captain Damien O'Brien sealed the win.

Southgate County were still very much in the hunt for the Cup and the 2016 Lisbon title. Your Mum would no longer be able to reach the Cup but they were odds on to make the Plate.

It was top versus bottom in Game #8 of Group A as World Pinteur met SNQTB. World Pinteur were currently in a three-team tie at the top but they had a game in hand over the other two teams on six points. If they were to take three points here they would secure a place in the Cup. A draw would give them the outright lead but still with work to do.

From an SNQTB point of view, this was their last game to put some points on the board. They had lost all three so far and to qualify for the Plate they would need to win this and hope Your Mum lost their last game. SNQTB would also need a 4 goal swing in goal difference. Anything less and they would be eliminated.

World Pinteur scored in the opening period through Adrien Maurel and, looking at the formbook, you would expect it to be plain sailing from thereon. It was not to be the case though as SNQTB battled hard but it was ultimately in vain as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat and the tournament for SNQTB was over.

For World Pinteur it was three games, three wins and three clean sheets – they were through to the Cup.

The penultimate game in Group was Southgate County versus Parques Tejo – this effectively was the battle for Cup qualification. The two teams were level on six points and the winner would go through to the Cup, the losers would qualify for the Plate. Should the game end in a draw then the result would favour Parques Tejo as they had the better goal difference (+4 compared to +3).

At the end of the first half it was Parques Tejo in pole position as they lead 2-1. Goals from Glinsono and Djassy Gomes for Parques Tejo gave them the initiative over Tony Sayers goal for Southgate County. After the break Alex Dindinha made it 3-1 and it looked as if Parques Tejo would be playing in the Cup as Southgate County now needed to score three unanswered goals.

Tony Sayers fifth goal of the tournament made it 3-2 but, alas for them, it was not enough to get the result they needed. Southgate County would join Your Mum in the Plate. Parques Tejo's title hopes were alive as they qualified for the Cup.

The above result meant that World Pinteur needed just a point to win Group A. Should World Pinteur lose then they would still qualify for the Cup but they would finish in second place as Parques Tejo would win Group A on goal difference.

For Your Mum, they knew they would be playing in the Plate but they could end the group phase on a high and claim a prize scalp in the process. In theory they could still finish in third position but they would need a five goal win. Benoit Botteau in the World Pinteur goal was yet to concede so that possibility seemed unlikely.

The World Pinteur defence was on the same fine form that it had been in throughout the morning's play. The defence proved impenetrable again with Benout Botteau keeping his fourth clean sheet. At the other end there was a first half goal for Florian Maurel on the stroke of half-time. Kevin Payet attacked down the right and drove the ball across goal for Florian Maurel to nudge it in at the back post. There was also a second half goal for Romain Ziat to complete a 2-0 victory.

Congratulations to World Pinteur for winning Group A and they would go into the knockout phase as one of the favourites to win the whole tournament.
