The opening match in the tournament was TaHu of Finland versus Skidmarks of England. The eagle-eyed amongst you will note from the list above that Skidmarks were our winners here back in 2012.

11 years on Skidmarks continued from where they left off in their title winning season and asserted their dominance in this opening fixture. Ricki Keeley and Iain Congdon proved to be the heroes of the moment, netting crucial goals that sent their team into the halftime break with a comfortable advantage. In the second half, Skidmarks continued to display their prowess as Luke Hatfield joined the scoring party and Iain Congdon netted for a second time. With a final score of 4-0, Skidmarks had made a strong statement in their quest to regain the title.

The first phase of the 2023 Krakow Trophy would be decided on a group basis. There were two groups with 6 teams in each group. The teams finishing 1st and 2nd in each group would progress to the Cup competition. This would be played as a knock-out phase with Semi-Finals and Final. The teams finishing 3rd and 4th in each group would progress to the Plate competition. This would be played as a knock-out phase with Semi-Finals and Final. The teams finishing 5th and 6th in each group would be eliminated at this stage.

Game 2 of Group A was Alea Iacta Est (Pol) versus Colonel Getafe (Eng). In the first half, Colonel Getafe got off to a flying start scoring two decisive goals to take a 2-0 lead. Oli Grossman and Joe Garvey were the stars of the show in the goal scoring department, showcasing their attacking expertise with precision finishing.

Despite Alea Iacta Est's spirited efforts, they found themselves trailing by two goals as the first half came to a close. Colonel Getafe's defence remained resolute after the break, making it difficult for the home team to find the back of the net.

As the second half unfolded, Alea Iacta Est attempt to mount a comeback never materialized as Alex Staggs and his defence kept their first clean sheet of the day. The match ended with a final score of 2-0 in favor of Colonel Getafe.

The next two teams to take the field in Group A were Krwiodawcow Cracovii (Pol) and Moles Salah (Eng).

Moles Salah made their debut approximately 15 months ago at the 2022 Lisbon Tournament which was a high quality affair. It was a tough opener as they lost 4-1 to local side Montenalas FC and 3-0 to Sirkumo FC. They then lost 6-0 to 2017 & 2023 champions, Pangere FC of Brazil. They then recorded a great 2-0 win over 3-times Cup champions Skidmarks. White Collar Revolution then defeated them 5-0 in the final group game as they finished 5 th of 6 teams to qualify for the Trophy. In the Semi-Finals they defeated 2021 Barcelona Fives Plate & 2023 Amsterdam Sixes Plate winners, FC Maroon, 2-1. They then met Skidmarks again in the final but couldn't repeat the earlier result and lost 2-1. They collected runners-up medals in the presentation.

From the very start today, it was clear that Moles Salah meant business. They wasted no time in opening the scoring, with Jack Barr finding the back of the net to give his team an early lead. Henry Myers soon joined the scoring party extending Moles Salah's lead to 2-0. Barr wasn't done either, adding a third goal to the total before halftime, leaving Krwiodawcow Cracovii struggling to mount a comeback.

As the second half began, Moles Salah showed no signs of letting up. Kesar Hunjan extended their lead to 4-0 with a well-placed strike. Henry Myers, displaying remarkable form, scored his second goal of the match, making it 5-0. Kesar Hunjan completed the scoring spree for Moles Salah with a brilliant finish, sealing a comprehensive 6-0 victory.
