Borussia
Dorchmen went into Round 3 needing a result if
they were to have any hopes of glory in Krakow
. Their opponents were Radio Taxi Barbakan who
had just been turned over 7-3 by the Rigford Seahawks
so maybe they were there for the taking. Cometh
the hour, cometh the man and that man was Adam
Hughes who sparked scenes of jubilation on the
touchline as the Dorchmen broke their duck. Players,
subs and members of their sister squad, Love Generation,
all went wild and even a mini pitch invasion ensued.
We are not sure if it was relief or surprise but
whatever it proved the catalyst for a fine performance.
The
Dorchmen never looked back as they found their
touch. Adam Hughes went on to score 4 and he was
ably assisted by Steve Wilson who chipped in with
two. Jerzy Krosta and Romek Piszczek put the ball
in the net for Radio Taxi Barbakan but they were
to prove no more than consolations. The Dorchmen
joined Barbakan on three points and with two games
to go had a chance to reach the Plate.
Wola
picked up the three walkover points against Hutnik
Krakow Old Boys which left Rigford Seahawks and
DHL Prague Red to battle it out for the remaining
game of the round.
The
Group B table would suggest that the Rigford Seahawks
were strong favourites for this game and they
did not disappoint. Tom Hallam opened the scoring
for the Seahawks before Chris Howard banged in
a hat-trick. There was still time for Richard
Butterworth to add a 5th. Rupert Baltrock managed
to breach the Seahawks defence to open his personal
account for the tournament. The three points were
never in doubt though as the game finished 5-1.
