Group
B got underway with the heavily hungover Borussia
Dorchmen against the Rigford Seahawks. The Seahawks
had gone to watch Wisla Krakow on the night before
the tournament go top of the Polish Orange Ekstraklasa.
Would this inspire them to the victory? On the
face of it – yes. The Seahawks got off to the
perfect start rattling in three goals without
reply. Ben Kent opened and finished the scoring
with a Chris Howard goal in between. A 3-0 win
and three points for the Seahawks whereas Borussia
Dorchmen did not get the start they were hoping
for.
DHL
Prague must have been pumped up for this tournament
on the back of their 2008 Barca Fives Plate success.
Their opening fixture was against Wola of Poland
who were making their debut in the Krakow Trophy.
The Czech team found themselves a goal behind
in the first half to Tomasz Ziecik. When Tomasz
Gorowski added a second in the second half the
game was all but over. The Polish side holding
on to their lead and claiming their first victory
2-0.
Radio
Taxi Barbakan went out on penalties in the Cup
Quarter-Finals in 2008 and were looking to go
further in 2009. They got off to the winning start
without kicking a ball as Hutnik Krakow Old Boys
were delayed en route to the tournament. Barbakan
were therefore awarded a 3-0 walkover.
