Atlantic
Star needed a performance in their 4 th fixture.
After a good early victory they were on a run
of two defeats and found themselves needing a
result to get back on track. They would come up
against an Azmot team who although 5th had picked
up two draws and were only narrowly beaten in
their other game. A tough game was in prospect
but Atlantic Star had obviously not read the script
as they blew their opposition away. Having just
received a 6-2 beating this was a remarkable turnaround.
John Sweeton got Atlantic Star off to the perfect
start, Clarke Woollam made it two. Adam Whittaker
scored his first of the competition to make it
three before Mark Brereton rounded off a fine
4-0 victory. The result moved Atlantic Star up
into 3 rd place and in such a tight group Cup
Qualification, Plate Qualification and Elimination
were all a possibility going into the final game.
Azmot on the other hand now found themselves bottom
of the table.
Having
just won their first game the Love Generation
must have been on a high but then they found themselves
up against Complex who were unbeaten in 3 and
just recently found their form. The Polish team
maintained their form with goalkeeper Michal Budka
keeping his first clean sheet of the tournament
whilst at the other end goals from Tomasz Ciepiela
and Pawel Sobczyk completed a 2-0 win that would
consolidate their position in 2 nd place of Group
A.
They
were in 2nd place because Brighton & Hove
Rockets had a 4 point cushion at the top. This
cushion was reduced to 1 point though when 6th
placed DHL Prague Blue overturned the form book
to stun the table-toppers and produce their first
win of the tournament. The fact that 6th can beat
1st showing just how tight this group was. The
teams were level, 1-1, at half-time with Gary
Cox (Brighton & Hove Rockets) and Pablo Fernandez
(DHL Prague Blue) finding the net. The 2 nd half
was to prove the decisive half and Tomas Jerabek,
with his 4th goal of the tournament, proving to
be the hero. The win kept DHL Prague's hopes alive
and a chance to compete in the Plate a very real
possibility. Brighton & Hove Rockets would
need to dust themselves off after this defeat
and focus on their final group game.
