With
two draws in their opening two games last year's
Runners-Up, Complex, had yet to reach the same
heights as 2008. Before the tournament had kicked
off, Ian Gibbins of eurofootballfives.com had
tipped Complex to be potential winners of this
competition and they finally put in a performance
to justify that prediction. Unfortunately for
Atlantic Star they were on the receiving end of
this return to form and were hit for six as the
Polish team ran out comfortable 6-2 winners. Stanislaw
Derszniak scored the first hat-trick of the group,
Jan Tota grabbed two more and Pawel Sobczyck scored
his first of the tournament. John Sweeton and
Mark Brereton scored the consolsation goals for
Atlantic Star. The win saw Complex jump up into
2nd in the table and into the Cup qualification
places for the first time.
Brighton
& Hove Rockets maintained top spot but were
made to work hard for their third successive win
against Azmot. Mateusz Kuvzolyn scored a hat-trick
for the Polish team and it is not often hat-trick
scorers end up on the losing side but poor old
Mateusz did. The reason he did was down to Stuart
Gould who ended up scoring all 4 of Brighton &
Hove Rockets goals. The final score was Stuart
Gould 4-3 Mateusz Kuvzolyn – we are sure the goalscorers
will declare it a team effort though so we will
change that to Brighton & Hove Rockets 4-3
Azmot.
The
final game of the round saw the team's occupying
5th and 6th come up against each other. If either
team had aspirations of Cup qualification then
a win now would be vital to kickstart their campaign.
The crucial opening goal came from James Burton
of The Love Generation – a lead they would keep
until half-time. In the second half Daniel Ellis
of Love Generation and Tomas Jerabek of DHL Prague
Blue moved the score onto 2-1. The English held
on to secure the victory and jump up into 3rd
place – right in the mix for the Cup. The defeat
meant that the Czech's propped up Group A with
two games left to decide their fate.
