Nordic Vikings (Scand)

The first final of the day would see Nordic Vikings 2.0 versus Nordic Vikings. With thirteen games of football already under their belts between them, these two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

As well as the glory of becoming champions there was office pride and bragging rights to play for amongst the touring group.

Let's have a look at the two teams:

Nordic Vikings 2.0 (Scand)

Played 6: Won 5, drawn 0, lost 1.

Goal difference: +22 (32-10)

Top goalscorer: Payraw Farhad (13)

Unbeaten Run: 4 (4 wins)

Clean Sheets: 1

Nordic Vikings (Scand)

Played 7: Won 3, drawn 0, lost 4.

Goal difference: +22 (25-25)

Top goalscorer: Markus Johansson (16)

Unbeaten Run: 3 (3 wins)

Clean Sheets: 1

Both teams came into the game on a bit of a roll with 4 successive wins and 3 successive wins respectively. Statistically Nordic Vikings 2.0 were favourites. A record of 5 wins and 1 draw and a goal difference of +22 is phenomenal for the Plate competition. These statistics are more in keeping with a team who has qualified for the Cup. Whatever happened here – two sets of medals and a trophy would be heading back to the Nordic region.

With the match underway it was Nordic Vikings 2.0 who established the lead. Kasper Vaudstrup had enjoyed a successful day in front of goal and his 9th of the tournament put his team 1-0 up. Jesper Bile Puck took his tally to 5 before Vaudstrup hit double figures. His 10 th goal made it 3-0 to Nordic Vikings 2.0.

Nordic Vikings had an uphill task to turn this game around. The uphill task became a mountain to climb when Payraw Farhad made a late bid for tournament top scorer. Two second half goals put him just 1 behind Markus Johansson in the top scoring stakes. Markus Johansson then scored himself – a consolation in the context of the Plate Final but an important goal for the golden boot award.

As it turned out Markus Johansson had done enough to win the top scorer trophy. His haul of 17 was a record for the tournament beating the 14 goals of Liam Robinson at the 2015 edition of the tournament in Prague.

We'd like to thank Nordic Vikings for attending the tournament and both congratulate and commiserate them depending on which side of the result they were on in the Plate Final!

Great credit today and many congratulations go to the 2018 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament Plate Winners – Nordic Vikings 2.0!
