Janssen
Portugal were a fantastic addition to the tournament
at the 2016 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament in Krakow.
If there was a popularity contest then Janssen
Portugal would have won it by a distance. On
the pitch, they were the “almost team”. They
lost their first two games by the odd goal and
never quite recovered. Despite just 1 win from
6 games their goal difference of -6 showed they
were competitive throughout. They won their
Plate Quarter-Final, 2-1, over Synthes UK 2
and then repeated the dose on JNJ High Wycombe
in the Semi-Final. They set up a Plate Final
against GBS Reds but missed out on victory,
4-2. In the presentation they celebrated like
they had won the World Cup – memorable scenes.
Today
they had 4 points from a possible 6 as they
occupied second place in the table. They were
currently 5 points behind JNJ Russia but could
reduce that deficit to just 2 points with a
win here. They were favourites against JNJ Estonia
and Lithuania who had 2 defeats to date.
Janssen
Portugal were merciless as they knocked 12 goals
past their opponents. Bernardo Rodrigues added
4 more goals to his personal tally. Nuno Cunha
and Humberto Moreira each scored a double plus
there were goals from Andre Riscardo, Manuel
Salavessa and Francisco Cruz.
