Going into the final round of games it was do or die now for Janssen Portugal and Actelion FC. The top teams were already guaranteed to reach the Cup but third place was still up for grabs. Janssen Portugal currently held that position and remained unbeaten today (2 wins, 2 draws). They were up against their closest rivals, Actelion FC.

Actelion FC were 2 points behind the Portuguese (2 wins, 2 defeats) and so had to win this game to qualify for the Cup. If they could claim the 3 points they would match their appearance at the 2018 edition of the tournament in Budapest. Anything less than a win would mean the Plate for Actelion FC. Janssen Portugal were aiming to reach the Cup for the first time.

Janssen Portugal continued their unbeaten run and swept to a 6-0 win. Joao Correia scored his first of the tournament to give Janssen the lead. Tiago Santos scored a brace as did Ricardo Prada. Nuno Cunha completed the scoring and Joao Mendes kept his second clean sheet in 3 games.

Janssen Portugal went top of the table by 1 point. If JNJ Russia v Capital Park Leeds Blues ended in a draw then Janssen Portugal would win Group B.

The penultimate game would be JNJ Russia versus Capital Park Leeds Blues. At the start of Round 5 these two teams were joint top, they were now joint second due to Janssen Portugal's victory.

If either team could produce a win from this game they would be crowned Group B winners. The loser would finish third but still qualify for the Cup. If the game was to result in a draw then JNJ Russia and Capital Park Leeds Blues would finish in second and third respectively behind Janssen Portugal on goal difference. These teams had played a number of times before:

Bratislava 2014: Tekkers Lovakia beat JNJ Russia, 2-0 (Group A)

Bratislava 2014: JNJ Russia B beat Gerri Hat-tricks, 1-0 (Group B)

Krakow 2016: JNJ Medical Russia beat Synthes UK 2, 4-0 (Group A)

Krakow 2016: JNJ Medical Russia beat Synthes UK 1, 4-1 (Cup Final)

History had seen Russia win 3 out of 4 and that was soon to be 4 out of 5 as JNJ Russia put in a strong first half performance that saw them reach the break 3-0 up. Dmitrii Elchaninov and Andrey Sheremetyev (x2) were both on target. Oleg Sakmaev made it 4-0 in the second half. Both he and Sheremetyev moved on to 5 goals for the tournament. Scott Biggs scored a consolation for Capital Park Leeds Blues.

Congratulations to JNJ Russia for their fourth group win in 8 years. Well done too to Capital Park Leeds Blues for Cup qualification.

The final game of Group B was JNJ Estonia & Lithuania A (Est) versus EDC (Ire). The two teams were in 6th and 5th positions respectively at the start of play. The team who would finish 5th would automatically qualify for the Plate. The losing team would have to better the finish of the 6th placed team in Group A – which we knew was Baltic Team, 0 points, - 41 goal difference.

It meant a draw would be good enough to see both teams qualify with EDC finishing in 5th. A win for either team would secure 5th putting the loser at risk of not qualifying. The risk was extremely low for EDC as they had a goal difference of -13. The risk was more significant for JNJ Estonia & Lithuania A who had a goal difference of -35. They couldn't afford a heavy loss.

The first half finished 5-0 to EDC and JNJ Estonia & Lithuania A were in trouble. We are not sure if they were aware of the situation but they needed a big second half. Their task got a little easier when Kersti Justus reduced the deficit to 5-1. The pressure was on again when EDC went 6-1 up. 1 more goal could prove costly for the Estonian team. It was not to be though and both EDC and JNJ Estonia & Lithuania A progressed to the Cup. The latter qualified at the expense of Baltic Team (Lat).

To credit the Irish goalscorers we had goals from Cahir O'Leary, Javier Sanchez-Infante Alvarez, Aidan O'Neill, Donnchadh O'Leary, Ivan Aldavert and a second from Aidan O'Neill.
