The
2011 Barcelona Fives Wooden Spoon Final would
see an all English final as Stamford AC met Shallow
Hals. Based upon group performances and the bigger
Semi-Final win, Stamford AC were most people's
favourites for glory and lift the wooden prize
aloft.
Shallow
Hals had been underdogs in the previous match
and thrived against Idealhouseshare Allstars in
the semi-final. Could they do it again? Early
signs were that they could repeat the feat and
make it two wins out of two. Chris Williams found
the perfect time to score his first of the tournament
as he opened the scoring for the men in pink and
they led 1-0 at the break.
What
did Stamford AC have left in the tank? Idealhouseshare
Allstars had witnessed that once Shallow Hals
had a lead they were tough to overturn. Stamford
AC had one half of football to claim success.
They got a good start when James Raynes equalized
and it was game on again. The momentum was with
Stamford AC and when Tom Cocks put them 2-1 up
the pressure switched to Shallow Hals who now
needed goals to get back into it. The 4th and
final goal of the final proved decisive as Danny
Brogan made it 3-1.
There
was no way back for Shallow Hals and Stamford
AC chalked up a 3-1 victory. Congratulations to
Stamford AC, commiserations to Shallow Hals –
we hope you enjoyed your tour!
