The
second Semi-Final promised to be an intriguing
clash as the free-flowing goals of the Equipo
A team would meet the obstinate defence of Sesimbassa
who had conceded just one goal in 5 games. Sesimbassa
were not shy in front of goal themselves so maybe
the key to this match was how well the Equipo
A defence would perform.
Would
Equipo A try and tighten up or would they just
go for goal after goal as they had done so all
day. The great news for the watching galleries
was they went for the latter. As the Equipo A
goals went in Sesimbassa had to leave the gate
open at the back as they search for goals. The
result was a thriller and it was nip and tuck
all the way as eight goals were scored in normal
time.
At
half-time we were level at 2-2. At full-time,
with another four goals we were level at 4-4.
As well as 8 goals we had 7 different goalscorers
as the ball flew in from all angles. The match
was a joy to behold and we suppose it was only
fair that both teams had extra time and possibly
penalties to decide the tie. In fact, in the 6
knock-out Cup fixtures today, this was the 5th
draw – unbelievable.
Goalscorers
for Equipo A were Albert Marx Garcia, Eloi Marin
Girona and Marc Cheucos (2). For Sesimbassa Joan
Domenech got the ball rolling and his goals were
followed by strikes from Oriol Belles, Daniel
Plazuelo and Pere Ferrer. Cheucos' goals put him
level on 13 goals and joint top goalscorer with
Chris Pye of Preston OAPs.
In
extra-time we were to see our third Cup golden
goal and it was Equipo who claimed it to become
the first team to make a Barcelona Plate Final
and a Barcelona Cup Final. They won the Plate
in 2009, could the Cup follow in 2011?
The
day was over for Sesimbassa, and as with Black
Sheep, we are sure there is a tournament victory
for Sesimbassa in the future.
