Intermore FC (Ire)

Preston Youth (Eng)

Smack My Pitch Up (Eng)

Bristol Bridge (Eng)

We were now getting to the business end of the tournament and into the Plate Semi-Finals. Ireland met England in the first Semi-Final as Intermore FC met Preston Youth. Intermore FC had suffered defeat to Preston OAPs in the group stage so would relish the chance to gain some form of revenge over their sister squad here.

At stake was a place in the Plate Final. Intermore FC had looked strong in the Quarter-Finals and in this match found their most fluent attacking football of the day as Paddy Mclean hit a hat-trick and Paddy Ryan scored twice. Preston Youth only had the bare minimum squad of 5 and maybe this was taking its toll under the Barcelona sun. Maybe the Irish made it just look like a tired performance. Their top scorer Ian Parry scored again to make it 10 for the tournament a fine return. However, he would not be adding to it as their challenge was over. Intermore FC had stormed into the final, 5-1.

Smack My Pitch Up and Bristol Bridge met in the second Semi-Final and this game proved to be much closer than the first Semi-Final. In fact, Bristol Bridge's games throughout this tournament had all been very close even against the top opposition.

At half-time in this fixture there was nothing to choose between the two teams as Terry Beattie (Smack My Pitch Up) and Lee Roberts (Bristol Bridge) each got on the scoresheet to leave us tied at 1-1. Bristol Bridge needed penalties to win their Quarter-Final and you wondered if this game might go the same way. However, we were to witness a decisive 3rd goal in this game and it was Roberts again who fired the winner that secured Bristol Bridge's first final. Congratulations to them. On the flip side, we had to say farewell to Smack My Pitch Up who were a pleasure to host at the tournament and we hope to see you all again next season.
