Group
C favourites were Goldsmith
Williams. In two previous tournaments they
had reached two finals and lost just once (in
14 games). Both those appearences were in Prague
though so their 3rd challenge would see a change
in football style and culture playing in Barcelona
. So, it was sod's law that they met DHL
Prague Red in their first game. The English
team had met DHL Prague sides on 3 previous occasions
and won them all so the form book would predict
a Goldsmith Williams win. The first half went
the way we expected as Goldsmith Williams raced
to a 3-0 lead thanks to debutant Liam Currie with
two and Chris Williams. DHL Prague Red did well
to hold their own thereafter and maintained a
respectable scoreline. With this difficult fixture
out the way they would look to their other two
games to progress.
Equipo
A of Spain were making their second eurofootballfives.com
appearance of the season when they met Kameeeene.
Kameeeeene were the sister squad of Galacticos
in Group A but unlike their counterparts who swept
to opening game victory, Kameeeeene were finding
things tough against Equipo A. The young Spanish
opened up a 2-0 lead by the break and then kicked
on to a 5-1 win at full time. Albert Marx was
the key architect of the attacking threat bagging
a hat-trick. Ajaz Budi was the man on the scoresheet
for Kameeeeene.
If
Kameeeeene found
it tough against Equipo A the last thing they
wanted (or needed) in their next match was to
face Goldsmith Williams.
Rizwan Siddique upset the applecart by spoiling
a second consecutive clean sheet for Gary Dean
in the Goldsmith goal. It was at the other end
though were the problems lay as Kameeeeene were
leaking goals. Goldsmith Williams put seven past
their opponents and with the added assistance
of an own goal they finished 8-1 victors. Liam
Currie scored a hat-trick to put him up at the
top of the goalscoring charts. Chris Williams
scored twice plus there were opening tournament
goals for Kevin Smith and David Lowry.
