Group
A of the 2009 Barca Fives would see teams from
the Czech Republic, England and Spain battle it
out for Cup qualification. It was FC
Radbroke against DHL
Prague Blue who would kick the tournament
off on Pitch A. FC Radbroke were making their
eurofootballfives.com debut and they got off to
the perfect start by taking the lead against their
Czech opponents. Michael Brandon scored an early
goal to give his side the lead and then doubled
the advantage before half-time to put FC Radbroke
in a commanding position at the break. There was
to be no further scoring as the English side claimed
all 3 points with a solid opening victory.
On
Pitch B, it was Galacticos
versus local team Metropolitan.
Galacticos could be considered the bravest team
in the competition by travelling to Barcelona
and playing in Real Madrid shirts. If the locals
did not like the choice of shirts then they would
certainly not have liked the thumping Galacticos
metred out to their hosts. In an absolute goal-fest
Galacticos emerged victorious 9-3. Zuber Bulbulia
and Hamzah Patel both claimed hat-tricks, Yaaseen
Patel scored twice and Asif Sheikh completed the
scoring. The result shot Galacticos to the top
of Group A on goal difference.
Game
3 would see the two first-game winners come face-to-face.
A win here for either team would virtually guarantee
qualification. The teams looked evenly matched
and there was little to choose between the two
sides and as such we reached half-time still at
0-0. The watching galleries would be treated to
goals in the second half and it was Galacticos
who claimed the lion's share and in particular
Yaaseen Patel who added a hat-trick to his opening
game double. With 5 goals in 2 games Patel was
an early contender for the tournament top goalscorer.
Matthew Nicholls scored for
FC Radbroke but ultimately this was a consolation
as Galacticos took the game, 3-1. They were top
and looking strong. FC Radbroke would need a result
in their final game.
