When
DHL Prague Blue
and Metropolitan
met after first game defeats they knew a win was
required to put them back in the mix for Cup qualification.
Martin Rehacek broke the deadlock and gave the
Czech team a lead they would keep until half-time.
It was becoming do or die time for Spanish team
Metropolitan and a goal from Pav Ortego put them
level at 1-1. Rob Millan put DHL Prague Blue back
in front and it looked to be the goal that would
give them their first win of the day. Pav Ortega
had other ideas though and he was the Metropolitan
hero as he made it 2-2 with just seconds remaining.
The draw was not ideal for either team but at
least they had opened their accounts. For Metropolitan
their fate know lay in their own hands but DHL
Prague Blue would need to rely on other results.
The
equation for the Czech outfit when they met
Galacticos was to win and hope Metropolitan
would win or draw against FC Radbroke but maintain
or gain a better goal difference than Metropolitan/FC
Radbroke respectively. Their task would not be
easy and whilst Galacticos had ensured Cup qualification
they had a 100% record to keep up. In the first
half neither team could find their way through
to goal. DHL Prague Blue's
hopes of qualification were still very much alive
if they could find a goal from somewhere. This
could well be enough as news from Pitch A in the
other game was working in their favour. DHL Prague
did find the goal they craved through Rob Millan
but sadly for them Galacticos found two and they
were condemned to defeat and therefore the Plate.
Galacticos kept their 100% record going but were
made to work hard for it. Yaaseen Patel scored
another two to take his personal tally to 7 and
his challenge to be top goalscorer was well on
course.
This
result meant FC Radbroke
versus Metropolitan
was a straight shoot-out to make the Cup. FC Radbroke
had the added luxury that a draw would be enough
to see them through. At the half-way stage it
was looking like Spanish team Metropolitan would
join Galacticos thanks to Pav Ortega's goals giving
them a 2-1 advantage. Matthew Nicholls goal for
FC Radbroke kept them in the hunt going into the
second half. There was to be one more goal in
this game and it would prove decisive. When Michael
Brandon stepped up to equalize he also booked
his team's place in the elite 8 teams of this
competition as the Cup awaited them. Metropolitan
would join DHL Prague Blue in the Plate.
