The
first silverware of the day would be decided in
the Plate Final. The CSF were making their fourth
appearance in a Plate Final meaning they had competed
in 25% of them. So far they had won two of their
three finals and were therefore looking for a
hat-trick of titles.
The
CSF were in familiar
territory but their opponents Tom
Tom Go were in unchartered territory playing
in their first eurofootballfives.com tournament
and making their first final. With both semi-finals
ending in draws, proving just how close the teams
in the Plate were, everyone was expecting an equally
close final.
The
first half lived up to everyone's expectations
and the two teams shared the two goals that were
put away. Tom Mottram must have still been on
a high after his golden goal semi-final free kick
as it was Mottram that found the net for the CSF.
His goal was cancelled out by Lee Clark for Tom
Tom Go.
With
no further goals in the second half, the English
and the Dutch team were locked together at full
time. We were into extra-time once again and both
teams knew the drill – golden goal. We had only
reached this stage once before in a Plate Final
and on that occasion a golden goal proved elusive
as Prisoners won the 2008 Prague Masters Plate
on penalties.
We
were afforded the luxury of a golden goal in this
match though and it was Oz Zamora who late in
the day was put through, calmly rounded the keeper
and kept his cool to roll the ball into the back
of the unguarded net. The goal sparked great celebrations
amongst the CSF squad who claimed their hat-trick
of Plate titles and a great scene of CSF's Michael
Ofori ‘polishing' the golden boot that scored
the golden goal.
Silver
medals to our gallant runners-up Tom Tom Go. Gold
medals and team trophy to our winners. Well done
all.
