RC Lens were back in action against Mavericks at the start of Round 3. This was the first meeting between two of the top three sides in Group B and was our first top of the table clash. We had two teams with 100% records thus far – one, maybe both, of those records would be extinct at the end of this game.

RC Lens were growing stronger and stronger in this tournament. A narrow 2-1 victory in Round 1 was followed with a flourish and a 6-1 win in Round 2. They were in the goals again in the early stages here. Two goals put them firmly in control as the game reached half-time.

Mavericks were clearly no mugs with 3-0 and 4-1 wins to their name already this morning but they were powerless to stop the RC Lens onslaught. 2-0 became 3-0 before 3-0 became 4-0 and RC Lens were making a clear statement of intent. Kieran Turner and Luke O'Nien both bagged a brace to keep their side top of the table.

The Badgers and Whiteley FC both came into Round 3 looking for their first victory of the day. Although results had been disappointing thus far there was still 9 points on offer and that would most likely result in Cup qualification so all was not lost but a win now was vital.

It was a circumspect start to the game and the two defences were on top in the early stages. There was nothing between the teams in terms of the score-line in the opening period and we reached the interval all square at 0-0.

As the game progressed the importance of the first goal increased and it would have been a huge relief to The Badgers when it came their way as Stuart Taggart turned the ball home. Stuart Taggart then doubled the advantage to put The Badgers firmly in control.

When Keith Murray made it 3-0 victory was assured and the win would help The Badgers make inroads on the teams above them in the Group B table. For Whiteley FC, the quest for points would continue.

Futeboladas (Por) had the chance to join RC Lens at the summit of Group B when they entertained Depo Legends (Ire). The Portuguese team had a maximum 6 points out of 6 whereas the Irish team had yet to put a point on the board. On paper, this looked an easy game to predict the winner based on the results we'd seen this morning.

On the pitch though Futeboladas did not have it all their own way and they had to work very hard due to the diligence of Depo Legends. However, when Andre Franco opened the scoring for the home team it looked as if the game was going as most onlookers would have thought and having lost 6-1 last time you feared for the Irish team. There was to be no further addition to the score in the opening period.

In the second half the Depo Legends really took to their task well and battled hard. The defence remained strong and ensured Futeboladas would not add to their goal and if they could just find the net at the other end they'd have their first point of the day. Alas, for the Irish, it was not to be on this occasion. They could take a lot from a much improved performance and maybe this was the turning point in their fortunes today.
