We
were at the 2015 Algarve Open Cup Semi-Final stage
and from 18 teams who started the day we were
down to the final 4. Before the Quarter-Finals
we had 4 Portuguese teams and 4 English teams
– this was now 2 Portuguese teams and 2 English
teams.
Up
first was Water Boy versus RC Lens. Water Boy
had played in 4 eurofootballfives.com semi-finals,
losing their first two and winning their most
recent two (although one of those was in the Plate).
A hat-trick of semi-final wins would see them
one step closer to that elusive first Algarve
Open title.
RC
Lens were the team to watch at the moment and,
without wanting to put too much pressure on them,
looked like the champions elect. They'd played
6 and won all 6 to date with 17 goals for and
2 against. If that wasn't title winning form we
didn't know what was.
From
the start, RC Lens assumed the ascendency and
they took no time it all in erstablishing a 2-0
lead with goals from Tommy Twelves and Luke O'Nien
– their sixth and seventh of the tournament respectively.
The referee blew for half-time and RC Lens could
virtually touch the Cup Final.
Water
Boy tried their best to get into the game but
RC Lens saw the game out with much maturity and
kept an impressive 5th clean sheet of the day.
For Water Boy it was another Cup Semi-Final exit
– 2011, 2012 and 2015. Their wait for a debut
win would continue for another season in the Algarve
Open. They were playing in the Algarve Veterans
Tournament later today so they may still have
a chance for glory.
RC
Lens were in the Cup Final.
