Mavericks
and Whiteley FC both came into Round 2 after 3-0
scores. Mavericks were on the winning end, Whitely
FC were on the losing end.
We
saw earlier that Whiteley FC had already played
at the 2010 Algarve Open. Not only is this their
2nd Algarve experience but also their 7th appearance
in European action with eurofootballfives. The
journey began at the 2008 Amsterdam Fives where
they reached the Cup Semi-Finals and lost an 8-goal
thriller, 5-3. 2011 saw a visit to the inaugural
Budapest Fives with one team narrowly losing on
penalties to eventual winners Al Kaloida (Hungary)
in the Plate Quarter-Finals and their other team
winning the 4-team Wooden Spoon convincingly in
the final 6-1 against Sweden's A Magyar Pekseg.
2012
saw the start of a Mallorca Tournament trilogy.
That year, Whiteley Stags went furthest of their
two squads reaching the Plate Semi-Finals. In
2013, their two teams finished 5th and 6th in
the group phase and both exited at the Plate Quarter-Finals
stage. In 2014 they begun the day with a 2-1 win
before results tailed off and they went through
to the Wooden Spoon Semi-Finals. A 2-1 loss to
Taylor's Tits ended their day on the field.
All
that eurofootballfives.com experience seemed to
count for nothing as Mavericks raced into a 4-0
lead. Craig Jones was the chief architect of the
lead as he bagged a hat-trick and Mark Adamson
scored his second in as many games.
Dan
Froud opened Whiteley's FC account with their
first of the day but it was to prove a mere consolation
as Mavericks ran out 4-1 winners. For Whiteley
FC it was a second defeat but in the 6-team group
format they still had 3 more games to get back
on track.
