At
the start of Round 3, we had AFC Shooters A versus
Galacticos. AFC Shooters A had played 2 and drawn
2. They remained unbeaten but in these Group phases
too many draws can seriously stall a team's progress
up the league table. They would hope to turn 1
point into 3 in this game.
Galacticos
were a point behind AFC Shooters A in the table
and yet to score in the tournament. They got off
to just the start they wanted with an Andre Paulino
goal before the break. Galacticos kept a clean
sheet last time out and if they could repeat that
feat they would be on their way to their first
win of the day.
AFC
Shooters A would surely have hoped to avoid a
third draw before kick-off but at this stage they
would probably have taken it before moving on
to the final couple of games. They needed to find
a goal from somewhere but the goal they craved
ultimately proved elusive. As the referee blew
the final whistle it was Galacticos who emerged
victorious, 1-0.
It
was a first win of the day for Galacticos as they
leapfrogged their opponents in Group A.
Next
up we had Water Boy versus Club Tropicana Drinks
FC. At the start of Round 3 these teams were 1st
and 2nd in the table and promised to be a mouth-watering
encounter.
A
win for either team would most likely see them
end Round 3 as the league leaders and well on
course for Cup qualification. As is so often the
case in top of the table clashes we had a close
fought contest and goals were at a premium as
neither team conceded in an inch in the opening
period. It was perhaps no surprise we reached
half-time at 0-0.
After
the break we had the first goal of the game as
Bernardo Agostinho swung the game into Water Boy's
favour. He gave the Portuguese team a vital lead.
Water Boy were yet to concede today and so Club
Tropicana had a huge task ahead of them to get
anything from this game. That task became twice
as difficult when Bernardo Agostinho doubled his
tally and his team's lead to make it 2-0.
It
was game over and Water Boy stretched their lead
at the top of the table. For Club Tropicana it
was 2 defeats in 2 as they slid down the table.
It
was 3rd placed Kazakhstan FC against 5th placed
Lacey Green FC in the final fixture of Round 3.
If Kazakhstan FC could claim victory they would
move in to second place in Group A and just a
point behind the leaders. For Lacey Green it was
a chance to build upon their two opening draws
and move up the table if they could find their
first victory of the day.
Kazakhstan
FC entered eurofootballfives.com competition for
the first time in November 2011's Barca Fives.
Having drawn a tough group with Midshires FC and
Rapid Bosco Navas they finished 3 rd and narrowly
missed out on Cup qualification. They played in
the Plate and went on to make the final before
finishing runners-up to HMS Sultan FC. In 2012
they returned to the Barcelona Fives finishing
2 nd in their group to eventual tournament winners
Black Sheep of Spain. In the knock-out phase they
bowed out narrowly (1-0) to Budapest Celtic Lions.
In 2013 they played in our Mallorca Tournament
and finished joint 2 nd in their 6 team group
(3 rd on goal difference) before a narrow 3-2
Cup Quarter-Final defeat to eventual champions
and 2-times eurofootballfives.com winners Inter
Women. In 2014, it was the Mallorca Tournament
again for Kazakhstan FC and they were joint 2nd
(3rd on goal difference) again. It meant Plate
qualification where they reached the Semi-Finals
before bowing out.
So
far today defeat had been followed by victory.
In this game they were to put a tick in the draw
category. The game ended 0-0 and it was a point
that meant Group A remained very close. There
was just 2 points separating 2nd from 6th and
with two rounds to go any of these teams could
still qualify for the Cup and still win the Group.
