The
2016 Prague Tournament Wooden Spoon Final was
the battle for 9th position, a consolation prize
and one last game to enjoy on these team's Prague
tour.
The
game would be contested by Fiorentina Turner and
OKFC. Fiorentina Turner came into the game as
the 9th ranked team courtesy of an extra point
picked up in the group phase and a superior goal
difference to their opponents (-6 compared to
-14). By this logic we made Fiorentina Turner
slight favourites?
It
looked like the form book would be proved correct
as that way as goals from Andrew Wigley, Dan Marshall
and Jake Bennett enabled Fiorentina Turner to
forge a 3-0 lead at half-time. They had doubled
their “on field” goals tally for the day in the
first half here.
A
second half Aidan Byrne goal gave OKFC something
to cling on to and potentially stage a second
half comeback. A second half comeback became less
likely with further Fiorentina Turner goals from
Joe Simms and Tom Lydon. There were five goals
for Fiorentina Turner and five different scorers
– impressive.
Congratulations
to Fiorentina Turner who finished the day how
they would've liked to have started it and they
took the Wooden Spoon prize (a metal spoon as
it turned out). Our commiserations to OKFC who
we trust had a great day at the Prague Tournament
and also a great weekend in the stunning Czech
capital.
