Round 5 began with Algaiga Golf versus John Laing. Algaiga Golf were assured of a place in the Plate competition. They could finish no higher than third even with a victory and, with Tito FC due to play Multiple Scorgasms, their current points haul of 5 would be enough to finish fourth (at worst). However, they would surely want to finish third to secure a theoretically easier Plate Semi-Final tie.

John Laing's situation was academic – the Multiple Scorgasms equalizer in Round 4 had really hurt their chances. Although with a win they could move on to 4 points the fact that Tito FC were due to play Multiple Scorgasms meant that would not be enough. It would be nice to finish the day on a high though.

Algaiga Golf, looking for momentum going into the knock-out phase, were the team to take the lead. A first half strike from Bryan put them ahead. There was no further score in the opening period of play but the game was made safe in the second half when Jon made it 2-0. The local Spanish team would clinch third position and now place the fourth placed team from Group A in the Plate Semi-Finals.

The day was over for John Laing on the football field at least. We'd like to thank them for their participation at the 2018 Mallorca Fives and look forward to seeing them again on their next European adventure.

Inter Balear and Renshaw could both claim a successful morning so far – they had both reached the Cup competition already butt he Group B title was still up for grabs. Renshaw were in the box seat as they had a 3 point lead over their opponents with 4 wins from 4. Inter Balear had just tasted defeat for the first time against Algaiga Golf so would dearly want to bounce back before the knock-out phase.

With goal difference as it was (+7 Inter Balear, +5 Renshaw) it meant that whoever won this game would win Group B. Should the match finish in a draw then Renshaw would finish at the summit of the league table.

As you might expect from the top two, this was arguably the most fiercely contested game in Group B. Renshaw had the edge at half-time courtesy of a strike from Conor Glass. In the second half Inter Balear hit back to make it 2-2 with Juan Garcia scoring twice for the Spanish and Elliot Albedian on target for Renshaw.

With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Inter Balear won it in the last minute – it was a hat-trick for Juan Garcia. His goal earned all 3 points and the Group B win. They would also avoid the Group A winners in the Semi-Finals. Both teams were safely through though.

Into Game 15 of Group B and we had a fitting game for the climax of the group fixtures. It was Multiple Scorgasms versus Tito FC. One of these teams would qualify for the Plate and continue their participation in the tournament. One of these teams would exit the competition.

Tito FC were in the advantageous position of just needing a point to secure fourth place and the final Plate berth. Multiple Scorgasms had to win to climb above their opponents.

In terms of form, Tito FC's was in a downward progression having secured 4 points from their first two games, they had lost the last two. Multiple Scorgasms form was moving in the right direction. Two narrow defeats (both 2-1) had been followed by two 1-1 draws. This would be a great time to secure that first win of the day.

Things started off well for Multiple Scorgasms as they forged ahead and took a 1-0 lead into the break. In the second half they rammed home their advantage turning 1-0 into 3-0. Lewis Hampton scored twice to make it 5 for the day for him. Bruce Lambert, the only survivor from the 2014 Berlin Fives and 2015 Bratislava Fives tournaments, also got in on the goal-scoring act. Luke Sheppard completed his first clean sheet of the day to round off the perfect game for Multiple Scorgasms. Final score, 3-0.

It was a tough end of the day for Tito FC who had begun so well. We hope they enjoyed the tournament and there are rumours they may be able to join us at the 2018 Barcelona Fives in October. We hope to see them there.
