At the start of Round 3, we had Jackson's Five versus Ben. Jackson's Five most recently appeared at the 2017 Lisbon Tournament with two teams – Retainers Academy and Jackson's Five. Jackson's Five were the more successful of the two teams with 5 wins from 7 as they finished joint second and 3 points behind the eventual champions – Pangare Futebol Clube representing Brazil. Jackson's Five went out in the Cup Quarter-Finals 1-0 to Portuguese side Indoorsoccer.

Today, Jackson's Five had 1 point from a possible 6 and really needed a win if they were to qualify for the Cup again. This would prove to be a tough proposition though. Their opponents, Ben, had won both their games to date and were yet to concede a goal. A win for Ben would move them 3 points clear at the top with Bar Maruru yet to play in Round 3.

The game went with today's form book as a goal in each half sealed it for Ben. It was Adam Whelan who opened the scoring this time as he bagged his first goal of the day. After the break Clement Verven scored his third goal in as many games to continue his fine personal start to the tournament. It was another win “to nil” as they kept a third successive clean sheet. Things were looking rosy in the Ben camp.

Next up we had Inter Hoddesdon versus Bluewater Training. At the start of Round 3 these teams were 3rd and 6th place in the table respectively and both needed the points, for different reasons, to help propel them up Group A.

If Inter Hoddesdon could claim victory they would move within 3 points of the leaders and keep their Cup qualification hopes alive. They came into the game on the back of an excellent 3-0 win so had momentum with them.

Bluewater Training were looking to put a run of 5 successive defeats behind them in our tournaments. Momentum was certainly not with them at the moment but due to the narrow nature of those defeats you felt it was maybe just one result that would change their fortunes. Could they stop the rot?

If they were to do it they would need to do so from a goal down. Toby Cleaver scored a brace in Round 2 and he was back amongst the goals in Round 3. His first half goal meant the teams changed ends with Inter Hoddesdon 1-0 up. In the second half he made it 4 goals in 2 games as he doubled his teams lead. In fact this was almost a carbon copy of their previous fixture with Sam Hoxhaj scoring a third and Angelo Cappalonga keeping a clean sheet. It was Inter Hoddesdon's second 3-0 in a row.

Bluewater Training had two games left to make their mark in Group A but for now it was 3 defeats from 3.

Bar Maruru were joint top at the start of Round 3. They had just seen Ben move 3 points clear at the top and Inter Hoddesdon move above them on goal difference. This was their game in hand and a chance to re-join Ben at the top and get back into the Cup qualification places.

Their opponents would be Urban Sport who had 1 point from a possible 6. Urban Sport could go fourth with a win and move to within 2 points of second position. Anything less than a win and it looked like the Plate would be their most realistic goal for this tournament.

With 2 wins, 3 goals scored and 0 conceded, Bar Maruru were certainly favourites for this game and they lived up to their billing. They were ruthless against an Urban Sport team whose heads were beginning to drop as frustration grew with their performances. What we witnessed was the biggest win of the group phase as Bar Maruru ran out 5-0 winners.

Toni Torres did the damage in the first half with 2 goals. Farid Echanghoufi added a double for himself after the break before Vicens Matas completed the rout. The size of the result was important as it meant Bar Maruru would top Group A on goal difference. Urban Sport remained in fifth position.
