Algaiga Golf were back in action against Multiple Scorgasms at the start of Round 3. This was a clash between the two teams in fourth and fifth position. Both teams really needed the points to surge up the table.

Before today Algaiga Golf (as Son Gual) had the following group record:

2012: 5 1-1-3 6-12 4

2013 May: 5 2-1-2 5-6 7

2013 June: 5 2-1-2 10-7 7

2014: 4 1-0-3 3-8 3

2015: 5 4-1-0 12-2 13

2017: 5 3-0-2 9-4 9

Overall Group Record: 29 13-4-12 45-39 43

With a draw and defeat so far today you could say they were “under par” (please excuse the golf pun) especially compared with their most recent performances in 2015 and 2017. Both these teams had played well this morning and could consider themselves unlucky they didn't have much to show for their efforts thus far. At half-time there was nothing to separate the two teams, 0-0.

Algaiga Golf had drawn their last game 0-0 but there were to be goals in this one. Jon (Algaiga Golf) and Lewis Hampton (Mutliple Scorgasms) were both on target but still the teams could not be separated as the game finished 1-1.

Whilst clearly better than a defeat, only time would tell if this was 1 point gained or 2 points dropped.

Tito FC and Inter Balear both came into Round 3 with ambitions of qualifying for the Cup. The former had 4 points from 6, the latter had 6 points from 6. Tito FC's start to the tournament had been characterized by solid defence. Goalkeeper Charley was yet to concede in the tournament. Inter Balear by contrast were in amongst the goals with 6 from 2 games.

So, would this be dictated by Tito FC and be a tight low-scoring affair or would Inter Balear impose their style and we witness goals galore. A little bit of both to be fair. In the first half it was tight with just the one goal in it. That goal was from Juan Garcia who gave Inter Balear a precious 1-0 lead.

As is so often the case, the game opened up in the second half as legs tired and Tito FC chased an equalizer. Inter Balear were well equipped to pick Tito FC off on the break and they did. Juan Garcia scored his fourth in two games as Yagid Hamadma scored his fourth in three games.

Inter Balear won 3-0 and established their credentials as Group B leaders. It was not the end of the world for Tito FC who had 2 more games to get their title challenge back on track.

Renshaw were up next against John Laing. Renshaw currently possessed 2 wins from 2 games. They had just seen Inter Balear make it 3 from 3 and were looking to emulate the Spanish side. If they could, it looked like a 2-horse race in Group B.

John Laing had struggled so far today which was a surprise to us. They performed really well at the 2016 Barcelona Fives – in a tough group as well. In their 9 games, they only lost to the 2015 and 2016 champions plus another game to a team that contained players from the 2015 Mallorca Tournament winners. With largely the same squad today though they were yet to pick up a point. Could their fortunes change around here?

If fortunes were to change they would need to fight back from a goal down. Conor Glass scored his third goal in two games to give Renshaw a 1-0 lead at half-time. This was an improved performance from John Laing in terms of the scoreline and against a strong Renshaw team. They would need to break their duck in front of goal to get their first points on the board but the Renshaw defence held firm.

There was no addition to the score at the other end either and so Renshaw ran out 1-0 winners. They would join Inter Balear on 9 points at the top but sat behind their hosts on goal difference.
