Open Age Group B got underway with an intriguing contest between two tournament regulars AFC Blue Boys (Pol) v Sporting Armada (Eng). We'll preview the Polish team in more detail as the report progresses. Sporting Armada joined us in Barcelona for the 2025 Barcelona Sevens. They began well with a 3-2 victory against Milner Street and then made it 2 wins out of 2 when they defeated Cruz Del Sur, 2-0. They suffered a setback with a 5-1 defeat to F.R. Ady but returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Dolce & Lallana to finish second in Group B and qualify for the Cup. In the Cup Semi-Finals they defeated Group A winners, CF Dons, 2-1, to set-up a rematch against F.R. Ady in the Cup Final. They gave it a good go but the Hungarians had too much and won 3-1 so Armada had to settle for runners-up medals.

Sporting Armada made an ideal start to their 2026 campaign, securing a convincing 3-0 victory over AFC Blue Boys to get Group B underway in style. Josh Matthews opened the scoring for the English side, giving them the advantage in a contest against opponents who were keen to make a positive impression. Armada continued to look dangerous as the game progressed, and Will Wood added a second goal to strengthen their grip on the match. With a two-goal cushion, they were in a commanding position and could begin to focus on seeing out the opening fixture without allowing the Polish side a route back into the contest.

Ryan Higgins then completed the scoring, making it 3-0 and ensuring Sporting Armada began their tournament with all three points and a clean sheet. It was an assured performance from the English outfit, who had shown their quality during their run to the Cup Final in Barcelona the previous year. While AFC Blue Boys would look to respond in their remaining group fixtures, Armada could take plenty of encouragement from a comfortable opening win (on paper at least) as they set their sights on another strong run in the competition.

APB FC (Ire) made their first appearance with us at the 2024 Porto Tournament. They experienced a tough start with a 4-0 defeat to Turn Down For Watford. They produced a solid 0-0 draw with G.D. Leoes de Guarda. They slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Milner Street before a 3-0 win over Stroke Titti FC. It meant they finished in 4th place in the group to qualify for the Plate competition. In the Plate quarter-finals they defeated Mates/Lads FC 2-1 to set up a semi-final against Bear Ballerz of France. Sadly for APB FC this was the end of their journey as they lost 4-1. Today, the Irish team would kick-off against New Ham United (more on them later).

New Ham United made a winning start to their Group B campaign, edging out APB FC in a closely fought encounter. The English side took the lead through Joshua Smith, whose goal proved to be the difference at half-time as New Ham United went into the break 1-0 ahead. APB FC, making their return to the competition after their appearance in Porto, would have been keen to find a way back into the match, but New Ham United remained in front as the contest moved into the second half.

New Ham United strengthened their position when Mark Solomon found the net to double their advantage at 2-0, leaving APB FC with a challenge if they were to rescue something from the opening fixture. The Irish side refused to give up, however, and Darragh Fehilly pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 and set up a tense finish. APB FC had given themselves hope, but New Ham United held on to secure a narrow victory and collect all three points. It was a frustrating start for APB FC, who had shown enough fight to make the closing stages competitive, while New Ham United could celebrate a hard-earned opening win.

The final two teams to get their Group B campaigns underway were Bathletico Madridlesborough and Colonel Getafe. Bathletico were making their debut in our events whilst Colonel Getafe arrived with a significant advantage in experience as the were making their 5 th appearance in our events following tours to Amsterdam 2022, Krakow 2023, Porto 2024 and Barcelona 2025. Last time out Colonel Getafe made the journey to the 2025 Barcelona Sevens. They were off to a flyer with a 6-0 win over New Ham United. Wins over Postbusters FC (2-1), World Pinteur (1-0) and Southgate County (5-2) followed to set up a final game thriller against CF Dons. Both teams had 4 wins out of 4. CF Dons won 4-2 but Colonel Getafe had still done enough to reach the Cup in 2 nd place. They met F.R. Ady in the Semi-Finals and pushed the eventual champions all the way. The matched ended 1-1 with the Hungarians progressing on penalties (4-3).

Colonel Getafe were off to another flyer here in Lloret de Mar as they raced into a 3-0 lead. Teddie Hanifan, Oli Grossman and Andrew Simpson were all on target but Bathletico's Alex Ctori meant at half-time the Madridlesborough still had a foothold in the game at 3-1. The second half kicked off and it got even better for Bathletico as Lawrence Howard reduced the arrears to 3-2. From cruising at 3-0, Colonel Getafe were suddenly looking at potential dropped points. They dug in though and completed the victory and took a precious three points.

Bathletico can take encouragement from a spirited comeback after a slow start. Colonel Getafe had always performed well in our events so this marked a good benchmark for how Bathletico may get on today.
